Snakeoil Salesman does his job...and other notes

Rich Rod weighing in on the Reckman situation

Rich Rodriguez decided to act like a second-grader and brought up Purdue's Zach Reckman to the media following Reckman's cheap hit at the end of the NIU game. Of course, Purdue doesn't play UM this week, so Rodriguez should have kept his damned mouth shut on this issue, but then again, he is Rich Rodriguez...he doesn't know how to do that.

Rodriguez got his wish as Reckman was suspended for a game...But unlike RichRod, Hope doesn't discipline his guys by making them practice three times as long than the typical NCAA player. Do you think the Snakeoil Salesman will still be crying to Delany this week because the punishment wasn't long enough? What other Purdue evil-doing will Rodriguez bring up to the league and the media? Jackass.

I think if I was Coach Hope, I'd make sure to mention all of the wrong-doings by Rodriguez and co. until punishment is handed down...Which probably won't ever happen because UM is one of the NCAA's cash cows.

Other notes
-King will be back against UND...hopefully he has been working on tackling during the weeks he was injured. Much like Pender and the rest of the defensive backfield, none have tackled all that well this season and all will be tested often on Saturday.

-Valentin will be returning punts against UND. Obviously he's the best punt returner with a ball in his hands...hopefully he'll have a firm grasp on the pigskin come Saturday (if UND has to punt).

-Hope
is excited to coach his first game v. UND...doesn't see it as a "measuring stick" for the program as did Tiller...but sees the game important to the program as a whole. He also sees the primetime game as an opportunity to have a good time...for the players, coaches and fans.

-Players all seem pretty positive in the interviews I've watched, listened to and read this week so far...Hopefully Thursday and Friday aren't crappy like last week.

Despite what Rodriguez said (and I being on your side), the 1 game suspension was levied by the Big Ten, not Purdue. Hope and Burke recommended a 1 quarter suspension, but Delaney upped it to a full game.

I think you're right...I read too quickly; that pisses me off more.

If you want to direct your anger to the original whiner, direct it across the sidelines this week at Fat Charlie. His whining started all this in the first place. Delany suspending Mouton for a half-hearted "punch" after Charlie's whining really ticked Rodriguez off, so he'll probably bring up every single shot like this by every other Big Ten team for the rest of the season, demanding consistency in punishment.

So Delany really stepped in it by listening to the Decided Obesity Advantage in the first place. This stuff wouldn't have resulted in suspensions even a few years ago. Robert Reynolds damn near killed Jim Sorgi about five years ago. Punishment? Yep, you guessed it, one game.

It's an overreaction by Delany, maybe to the Legarrette Blount thing.

Migrated over here to read this from MGoBlog.com. This post is epic FAIL. The point is, the Big Ten shouldn't have anything to do with either situation. And if you can't see the difference between punching a dude AFTER the game, and an in-game strike to a dude, well, I don't know what to tell you.

Yeah. Blame RR. And bring up the "practicing 3x as long" stuff. If you're going to pontificate, please take the three seconds to find out the difference between "countable" and "noncountable" activities and "voluntary" and "nonvoluntary." For your reference: http://mgoblog.com/content/jihad-second-they-dont-know-rules

And here, I'll cut-and-paste the pertinent section of the NCAA regulations: Non-countable Athletically Related Activities. The following are considered non-countable athletically related activities and are not counted in the weekly or daily time limitations:
a. Training-table or competition-related meals;
b. Physical rehabilitation;
c. Dressing, showering or taping;
d. Athletics department academic study hall or tutoring sessions;
e. Meetings with coaches on non-athletics matters;
f. Travel to and from practice and competition;
g. Visiting the competition site in sports other than cross country, golf and skiing;
h. Medical examinations or treatments;
i. Fund-raising activities;
j. Recruiting activities (e.g., serving as a student host for prospective student-athletes during official visits);
k. Public relations activities related to the student-athlete's sport (e.g., media days);
l. Participation in regular physical education classes, with or without credit, that are listed in the institution's catalog and open to all students;
m. Voluntary individual workouts, provided these workouts are not required or supervised by coaching staff members, except that such activities may be monitored for safety purposes or conducted by the institution's strength and conditioning personnel who have department wide duties.
n. Individual consultation with a coaching staff member initiated voluntarily by a student-athlete, provided the coach and the student-athlete do not engage in athletically related activities;
o. The provision of videotapes to a student-athlete by an institution's coach that include a personalized message and athletically related information (e.g., discussion of plays, general workout programs, lectures on strategy related to the sport), provided the viewing of the videotape by the student-athlete is voluntary;
p. Use of an institution's athletics facilities (which may be reserved) during the academic year or summer by student-athletes, provided the activities are not supervised by or held at the direction of any member of an institution's coaching staff.

Sorry about Roy Roundtree. We don't even need him. That's the funny part.

Oh, and by the way I was at the game last Saturday and my family was tailgating next to NIU's quarterback's parents and their whole group. Apparently he really wanted to go to Purdue but they dropped him and he ended up at NIU.

I'm getting pretty tired of this BigTen punishment, and it's not even long enough to be called anything more than coincidence. I don't think this was Rich Rodriguez's doing, but rather the conference stepping up it's efforts to limit the cheap shots.

They should be asking the schools to administer the punishment. State's rights/10th amendment style and all that.

There's no reason for them to step in if Hope/Burke announce they're taking care of it.

I fail to see how any of this changes the fact that a Purdue player took an intentional shot at an opposing player after time expired. Suspension or no, isn't that where the root of this problem is?

Man, the rod up Mr. Intensity's ass must have a rod up its ass... and it's name is probably Rich.

Just chill dude.

Mr. Intensity -- we didn't like the cheap shot either, but it was hardly a "punch."

Settle down.

And the point is RichRod's whining is just, so, well... weak.

Kind of like using "epic FAIL" to describe posts... find some new and original.
