He's doing very good things over there.B-Kizzlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08636900437292759046noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36696801.post-81646760797112297042012-10-18T10:27:00.009-04:002012-10-18T10:27:00.009-04:00Note that Northern Iowa actually did pretty well t...Note that Northern Iowa actually did pretty well this year against Big Ten teams, losing 26-21 in Madison and 27-16 at Iowa City. Those two teams lead their respective divisions, and while it's more an indication of the weakness of the conference, that's not NIU's fault.

They've played well against Iowa and Iowa State most of the time, which is pretty respectable. Farley's playoff experience is a nice bonus, too, even if it only comes in handy when preparing for bowl opponents (were he to be hired).

Something to keep in mind re: Kingsbury (who was a spread QB at Texas Tech under Mike Leach) is that pretty much anyone's going to need a couple of years to transition to what they can do well. I think we all agree that Nord's offense is not getting the job done (well, that and his blind refusal to acknowledge the problems) ... it's possible that it's just a poor craftsman and not the patterns he's using, but I suspect whoever coaches after Hope will be using a different offensive scheme.

I'd also like to see Purdue hire a black coach. I-A football still has a wildly disproportionate number of white head coaches, and more than a few are lame-os who keep getting opportunities because they know people. In the meantime, there are solid black candidates who are going to kick butt once they get the right shot, but just can't seem to get to a final interview. If Burke is smart enough to find one, it'll be great for him, for the school, and for the coach. zlionsfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02966540737106797756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36696801.post-27288846780258811782012-10-18T09:44:46.679-04:002012-10-18T09:44:46.679-04:00Damn you, plang, for beating me to the punch.Damn you, plang, for beating me to the punch.Ben Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02570592765548376336noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36696801.post-40686823029951199172012-10-18T09:44:09.368-04:002012-10-18T09:44:09.368-04:00I was really surprised to see Jim Chaney at the to...I was really surprised to see Jim Chaney at the top of your list. I remember a lot of people being relieved when he left after too many "hey, let's run up the middle!" play calls. You're right, though, he had some great offenses while he was here. Maybe that had more to do with the head coach than Chaney - I really don't know. While the offense was fun to watch for a number of years, it certainly wasn't his last two years in town. But compared to what I saw last Saturday...

Kingsbury would be very interesting. Not sure if he is ready for the big time, but he certainly would make the games entertaining.

I think Doeren would be a good fit.

Ah, to dream!Planghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02653369707738276129noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36696801.post-21903983579561302832012-10-18T08:45:48.908-04:002012-10-18T08:45:48.908-04:00All of the candidates in this post sound great.
