Le Tour Est Merde!

The Tour of France lost its leader yesterday as Michael Rasmussen was fired by his team, thus is now unable to compete in the race. A week ago, a German rider tested positive for estrogen, or something.

This is only mentioned on this website because Dick Pound (Chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency) weighed in on the issue on Thursday, and we wanted to mention Mr. Pound by name...I can't remember what he said right now, but it was important to Tour fans.

A French newspaper ran a mock obituary declaring "The Tour is Dead". That particular outlet will not post results to any more stages to show that they no longer see the Tour as important. As a sign of solidarity to our fellow journalists in France, we at Boiled Sports will do the same.

I think it's so funny that nobody ever cared about the Tour (except for a slight bump in interest when Greg LeMond won it in the late 80s) until Lance Armstrong busted onto the scene and won it seven times in a row.... suddenly, people sort of cared, people watched some of it on OLN (now the Versus network), Lance was on the cover of SI, etc. And so basically, the sport was at its absolute apex... and now it's been completely blown because they can't get a handle on the doping. Well done.
