Groundhog Day
Last week, versus a better opponent than his Boilers, Joe Tiller's team was exposed as a pretender. This week, versus a more-talented Michigan team, Tiller's bunch was flat-out embarrassed.
Regular visitors to our site know that I thought this was a loss back in August...I didn't think it'd be a game that should have been a 50-point loss in a 27-point loss' clothing. I'm pretty sure that Purdue will lose all of the games remaining on the schedule in which they are not favored. Where's that leave us? I don't know because a lot can happen to both Purdue and the competition in the next 5 weeks. But, I can tell you that Tiller should stop wasting the Boiler fans time and money and tell them not to even show up for games versus "better" competition...God knows the coaches have already told the players that there's no need to take the field.
Is this garbage getting old for EVERYBODY now? I don't think Tiller deserves to be fired, but I am past being ready for him to retire. Football is a game that needs emotion and "fire in the gut" to be played at a high level. Purdue's team and coaches look to me, that they have lost the fire. Last year it was Penn State and Wisconsin who took Purdue's will and urinated all over it. This year (so far) it's been Ohio State and Michigan. While I am not, nor will not question the effort out of the players, I will absolutely question the game plan and preparation by the coaches.
Tiller's philosophy of "no big games" makes itself more and more obvious each year. What it breaks down to is this- Purdue will beat teams that are simply not good and lose, or worse yet, get crushed when playing teams that have winning records...Our Boilers records have been inflated the last four years with wins over MAC opponents and the bottom third of the Big Ten. This year looks to be no different and Purdue will go to yet another midling bowl...Good news Boiler fans, the commute to the bowl might be easy this post-season as Detroit's Motor City Bowl seems to be a distinct possibility, to me. Let's hope the opponent isn't a team with a record much better than .500.
While the season is not over and there is a lot of football yet to be played, trends of the previous three seasons have once again made themselves evident...October continues to be a month off for Tiller & Co. Good teams continue to control our Boilers. And finally, Purdue's coaching staff looks to be extremely content being unranked, uninspired and unchanged from previous campaigns.
Painter played poorly as did Bryant, Lymon, Sheets, the defensive backfield and others...but I am not blaming the 19 & 20 year olds. I'm blaming the leadership for presenting a storyline that has become more-than-tired & completely predictable to the Purdue faithful over the past few seasons.
Let me close with one more point- I think I'd really like Joe Tiller as a neighbor and if we were acquaintances or friends. That said, I'm just pretty worn-out with him as the coach of my alma mater.
This will go on the shelf with
Middle-of-the-pack,
Purdue v. UM reaction,
Tiller's tired

Amen.
This team can still win 8 or 9 games. I would be very satisfied with that. We aren't a better team than OSU, Michigan, or PSU. The way we lost is a little disturbing, but it only counts as one loss, not two.
Yes, I am sick of this too. I am sick of getting my hopes up just to get them doused in gasoline and set on fire.
The way our Boilers lost is more than a little disturbing...They have ceased to be competitive with winning teams.
Isn't competition the point of playing sports?
Hehehe, don't worry. I was going to go to Happy Valley but chose Michigan instead. We're actually going to Miami's homecoming that week, so at least it will be nice in Miami.
The U, or Miami of Ohio? I was enrolled there for architecture, but ended up at Purdue.
Thanks for stopping by...I've been there- My wife and went there to the Orton led team his Junior year. It was pretty awful too.
I liked your road trip record run down...I think we may do that too this week. Problem is, I don't know if I'll be going to any roadies this season.
If the Boilers win out and go 10-2, I will be very pleased and happy with the season. If they go 4-1 (which I feel they absolutely should) and finish 9-3, I will be okay with the season and not very disappointed at all because it will mean they rebounded well. If they go any worse than that, I will lead the Fire Joe Parade.
We're actually going to the U. It will be my first (an unfortunately last) game to see in the Orange Bowl. I've only seen Miami in person one other time and that was last year's horrible game at Louisville.
What's your connection to Miami? I hear the Orange Bowl has become a bit of a dump. That said Joe Robbie, or whatever the hell it's now called has very little character. Hopefully, a new Orange Bowl will have character and be built closer to campus.
J- there's no way this team goes 10-2...9-3 is a moderate success and enough to keep me happy unless they poopie (I learned that from my son) in the bed. Then I'll have that lousy taste in my mouth again. It may force me to get a 3 or 4-game pack next year.
My connection to the U is that my wife is an alum and huge football fan. Part of the deal for living in Indiana at the moment is that we get Purdue tickets so she can feed her college football addiction. I, of course, grudgingly accept.
Miami should stay in the Orange Bowl, as a plan was in place for a major renovation. Instead they chased the money north and will be playing at Joe Robbie/Pro Player/Dolphin(s) Stadium starting next year. Greed wins over tradition again tot he tune of a mere million dollars a year. My wife is most definitely not pleased, as they easily could have stayed in the Orange bowl and worked out a renovation plan. It's amazing. We footed the bill for our entire renovation, where Miami wouldn't have had to pay a cent because the city of Miami owns the Orange Bowl.
Donna Shalala is a damned fool.
bdowd - which is why I said I'd be very pleased and happy with 10-2 if it happens. I don't think it will, either, but I'm saying if it does, it makes this season good in my eyes. 9-3 makes it acceptable. Anything less pisses me off.
Agreed, J.
