Coach; Educator; Marksman

You know, we definitely dislike Bob Knight around here but he's no longer the coach of our most hated rival, IU, and instead toils away at his craft in the outpost of Lubbock, Texas. Plus we have plenty of hating to do on Kelvin Sanctions, Fat Charlie, etc.

But, still, I had to comment on this story from SI that Bob Knight is still out there firing wayward shotgun blasts.

Apparently, last month Bob Knight "accidentally" shot a woman in the foot while hunting for birds. That seems a bit off-target to me -- aren't birds more often airborne than at foot level? Regardless, he then allegedly hit another guy who had yelled at him and his buddy for hunting too close to his property. The guy in question only yelled at them after, according to him, their birdshot had rained down on his backyard three times. Then he was cleaning his pool and was hit in the back by more birdshot pellets.

"Lubbock police said they do not plan to seek charges against the coach."

Of course not. Why would they? This is a man who has now shot three people since October 1999. He was fined a total of $582 for the original incident and, yeah, sure, that's probably enough.

The two people he hit last month both estimated he hit them from 250 feet. Imagine if he were closer to them or, say, using a rifle with actual bullets instead of birdshot? Or if the shot had hit the woman's eye instead of her foot? No, I suppose there's no need to look into any of this or revoke his right to carry a weapon. He's totally balanced and should be allowed to carry firearms.

So glad I'm moving to Texas.

To be fair, many bird hunts are for turkeys/pheasant/quail etc. and none of those birds get all that high off the ground. But still, that's one ugly woman if he thought she was a turkey

Don't worry J. Lubbock is on the other side of the state, which might as well be Oklahoma. His weapon of choice seems to be the shotgun, so as long as you stay out of whatever dirt-pan county Lubbock is in, you should be fine. But keep your head down just in case.

I think you need to change one of the labels on this post.

It should read "Guns don't kill people. Bob Knight kills people."

OK, he's either hunting turkeys (ground level) or water foul, which fly above head. He shot a woman in the foot (ground level) he hit people with buckshot from 250 ft. away (had to be firing upward. Plus, he "accidentally" shot one of his hunting buddies a few years back.

He's a good guy...get off of his back. Sure, he shoots people in the foot, back and from far distances...but he graduates his players!

A lot of fus for an incident where nobody even went to a doctor.

I like a lot of the local topics on this blog, but you guys are spending a lot of energy bashing on other programs (Notre Dame, IU, Texas Tech).

jon...we shall continue doing so if it is warranted. R.M. Knight is a loose "canon"...it's too bad some still won't recognize this as fact.

I think you're also referencing Sanctions and the Manatee...Sanctions has more coming his way in the next calendar year from the NCAA...It's going to be sad to see who else is thrown under the bus during the process. And UND- how could we not focus upon the trainwreck that was the Irish football season?

Seriously, we're not the only ones who enjoyed ND's season.
