I know, I know, Jimmy Clausen is set to have a great follow-up season in '08...but let's be honest, the media was just kidding when they talked up Pickles and the rest of UND's recruiting class from '07, but they're serious this year...Notre Dame is going to be really, really good*, and Crist is on their side. Not Christ, as Jesus has always rooted for Notre Dame...but Dayne Crist, the bestestest quarterback to ever play at Notre Dame. I don't know how the Manatee will manage to line two quarterbacks under one center, but he's a genius, so he'll make it happen. Everyone's excited in South Bend- They're waking up the echoes, and whatever the hell else they do every other offseason at Notre Dame.
You know who else is excited about Notre Dame football? The media! The same guys that crowned Weis a genius...the same guys who tried to tell us Zbikowski was a good football player...the same ones who gave undeserving UND teams shots at BCS bowls...yeah, those guys are buying in yet again. I guess the last two top-10 classes weren't "smart and didn't want to win a title sooner rather than later"...Honestly though, if you want to win a title, wouldn't you attend a school that has at least won a bowl game in the last 14 years? Guess not.
Notre Dame's most recent gay-ish quarterback will follow in the footsteps of Quinn and Clausen...Heisman!!!
*really, really good is defined as 4 or more wins

But they have Jimmy Montana? Now I am confused. That wasn't a choir of angels I heard when the heavens parted and he threw his first ever TD pass right in front of my seats at Ross-Ade.
Why did Crist come to Notre Dame? Clausen isn't going anywhere, he'll be a redshirt junior before he can play.
BTW, found a great read that debunks the SEC superiority myth quite effectively...THE TRUTH
Great writing. Articles like this, and the boobs, are why I come to Boiled Sports.
You guys really need to quit beating on Fat Charlie and Notre Dame. He is doing the best he can with what he has. How many underclassmen were starting last year? Sure, they may be highly prized recruits with infinite amounts of talent, but until FC has a chance to mold them into the sexy, dreamy image of a one Tom “You Should Love Me, Everyone Else Does” Brady, the team just isn’t going to be where he wants it.
FC has three things going against him that are slowing down how fast he can wake up the ghosts. 1) Academics. We all know the best players should not be hampered by academic requirements. Until ND institutes a “General Studies” program, this will continue to slow the torrent of talent that FC can bring in. 2) Location. How are you supposed to impress recruits with a location in the flatlands of northern Indiana? Last time I checked, South Bend wasn’t exactly a hot bed of nightlife and fast times. 3) Other schools. How dare these schools from the South and West Coast take all the good talent away from their rightful home of ND! FC has to deal with these inconsiderate, cheating bastards that actually feel the need to compete for recruits. Until numbers 1 and 2 above are taken care of, this one will also slow down FC.
If clowns like you would get off of FC’s back, he would be able to tell everyone that the administration is not allowing him to make Underwater Basket Weaving a major, move the school to the Florida/Georgia border, and pimp slap (with his Superbowl rings) guys like Urban and Pete and tell them to stay away from his handsome young boys.
Paul, I honestly don't think these guys are too over-rated...they are somewhat over-rated, but Weis has simply not shown any propensity to developing talent. It's much easier to develop a player when there are no rules on practice time and they have to work full-time with you daily. It's a bit of a juggling act with the NCAA rules the way they are...and strength and simply getting guys up to size has been a struggle too.
I actually think UND will have 6-7 wins next year...I think you might actually hear grumblings from SB if that occurs. That said, they're going to be with the fat man for a while. Even deep pockets like UND would think twice about buying out a contract like his.
Agree with BoilerDowd. When he took the job, Charlie inherited a group of veterans that didn't need to be developed. He didn't realize that college coaching is more about developing talent than X's and O's. Until he realizes that gets better at it, he will continue to suck.
That was all sarcasm. I know the guys are talented, I was just having fun with the whole situation.
