I know all you Purdue fans have been wondering where our old friend Jim Colletto has been and what he's been up to. Well, he was the offensive line coach for the Detroit Lions until just recently when he was promoted to co-offensive coordinator, or something like that.
Mike Martz was fired by the Lions and who better to take the place of a guy generally agreed to be at least a good offensive mind? Why, Jim Colletto, of course.
Jim Colletto, Cam Cameron... these guys have lucrative coaching jobs in the NFL. Does this make any sense? Couldn't Boilerdowd, Tim and me coach a team with as much success? I think so.
I also think it's fun to imagine the season-ending conversation between Bill Parcells and Cameron down in Miami. That'll be a fun one.

He'd always say "they're lining up wrong..." Yeah, coach...that's the reason Northwestern just beat you by 4 TDs.
Not-so-good times.
True story from the 1995 Northwestern game. My brother-in-law and I were leaving with the Boilers down two scores and about five minutes left. We walked around behind the student section and poked our heads back in just to see how they were doing. Naturally, instead of any sense of urgency the offense was standing around as the clock ran down. Some drunken fan from the section behind us shouts, "WAY TO WORK THE CLOCK, JIM! YOU'RE A REAL MASTER AT IT!"
We laughed the entire way out of the stadium
Football is so much of an good-old-boy network that sometimes you really wonder what owners and GMs and Athletic Coordinators are thinking. UCLA just picked up a guy that, beside winning a Rose Bowl with someone else's recruits, showed us LOTS in college coaching. Cam "Can-Do" Cameron always pops up. Norv Turner is another one. And then there is the shifting around of Nutt et al...
I hope, and it may be useless hope, that Purdue goes after a fresh face when the time comes. Who knows anymore.
Mariucci! I know it won't happen, but he's available immediately. Just another name of a person who won't get the job.
Nutt is a good coach, he'll win at his new school too.
Think about it- aren't pretty much all industries good 'ole boy networks? I think it's human nature to go with the devil you know rather than take a risk.
I hear you Paul. I shift my Nutts around all the time.
Wait, what?
As long as you are shifting them, and not sitting on them.
I remember when Colletto said you couldn't win at Purdue because you had to compete with Ball State and Cincinnati for players. Wonder what his excuse will be - I just can't get the athletes that Green Bay can because it's such a hip place.
Hasn't Kitna been sacked more then any other QB the last two years? Colletto was the offensive line coach and he gets promoted? Yeah, that GM is a genius.
Um... Cam Cameron and Colletto. Does anybody really wonder if the Lions and the Dolphins really want to win. Seriously. They are just making money. Thats it.
I don't know if they're making money...think about it, these teams are merely tax-deductions for their loss. Both owners are profitable in their other businesses (at least Ford was before '05)...and no one wants to buy Kitna or Lemon jerseys...they're sure as hell not selling out their stadiums...
Like my grandfather always said, "Don't own a pro sports team if you want to make money..."
That reminds me of a joke...
Q: What did the car company AMC and Indianapolis have in common in the 1970s?
A: They both had a lotta ugly Pacers!
Wheee!
