Anyway, in case you haven't heard, the Tampa Bay
Oh, that's just brilliant. I think the "Rays," as they now insist on being known, would consider this. I mean, an aging superstar clouded in controversy and well-known to be a complete prick who demands leather recliners and multiple lockers... yeah, he sounds like a perfect fit for a team that has finished in last place 9 out of the 10 years they've existed. He's definitely the final piece of the puzzle for a title run.
What the hell are the Rays thinking? From the article...
Manager Joe Maddon said Monday he knew "little" about what was going on, but acknowledged some thought has been given to the career home-run leader.
I think you could just stop that sentence at the comma.
It gets even better, too, because the Rays brass is apparently huddling and considering offering contracts to Kenny Lofton (almost 41 years old) and Mike Piazza (40 in September and completely washed up). I think they should sign them all. And maybe lure Fred McGriff out of retirement so they could have an outfield that all falls asleep during games because they're so old.
What else do you expect from a franchise that renamed itself because old people in Florida didn't like "devil" in the name of the team and then chose to rename themselves after sunshine rays despite playing in a dome?

They have to get people in the seats somehow.
meh, i agree with matt. wouldn't be a bad move for them or any team looking for a solid left-handed bat and is willing to handle the negative media attention.
If they can get him cheap enough, they should sign him...especially if they can get a clause that lets them out of his contract when he goes to jail.
Worked for Wade Boggs...
Are you guys going to be talking about Boilers in the NFL Combine at all?
Yeah, I watched yesterday as Avril and Keglar dominated the DL and LB's. The day before, it was Keller.
I think the combine is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Not sure if I think the people who watch that are lamer or less lame than those who watch the draft.
You might be right, but I heard the Boilers were cleaning up so I had to take a gander... plus its better than watching ESPN with its "greatest highlight ever," and coors light six pack of questions, and fact or fiction, and budweiser hot seat, and miller lite good call/bad call, and sean salisbury is a jackass. :O
that is one of hte most frightening pictures int he history of baseball...
Good point, BP.
Since we're talking combine...
They said Keller's stock went through the roof because the other 2 top TEs performed terribly. It made me smile because one of those TEs was from ND. Keller deserves every good thing that comes to him. I still can't believe we didn't use him more when we had the chance.
Unfortunately, I had to suffer through the "greatest highlights" before SC got around to talking about it... so maybe I'm the lamest of them all, J
