BS Reader Poll -- Game 2

We’re hopping right into Game 2 of the Boilers 2008 Season Prediction Extravaganza.

After the week 1 game against Northern Colorado, which we’ll hopefully see Purdue survive, a real non-conference opponent comes a-callin’ to Ross-Ade. While it’s always stressful to have stiff competition early in the season, this is a good thing for the program. A win here suggests real legitimacy. A loss might begin the “here we go again, Joe can’t leave soon enough” comments. So vote it up.

Yes they will...do you think Purdue will miss losing their top-4 receivers?

I'm just saying...

Belotti's a good coach...he'll have the Ducks prepared.

I just pray to get off of the merry-go-round of losing to good teams we've been on the last 4 seasons.

It kills me to vote for a loss, but I just don't see our defense containing the Oregon spread. Their running back is fantastic, and I don't trust our linebackers outside of Heygood. Their questionable quarterback matches up against our questionable secondary, but I predict several 7+ yard runs on the Oregon side of the ball. I see our Boilers matching them score for score at first, then a couple of miscues (probably in the form of fumbles) have us losing a heartbreaker. Having said that though, if Painter leads our Boilers to a victory in this one and in South Bend, I'll start believing this "best senior QB in the country" hype.

i voted for a win, but only because i fully believe we will start 5-0 before the massive losing streak begins.

@ John

"Their running back is fantastic"

Who exactly are you talking about? Jonathan Stewart was drafted in the 1st round and is no longer at Oregon. Here are the RB's they return with 2007 rushing yards.

Alston/3 star recruit/42 yds
Blount/JC transfer/0 yds
Crenshaw/3 star recruit/15 yds
Johnson/3 star recruit/644 yds
Lewis/0 star recruit/0 yds

john- I think Werner's going to be a darned-good LB...That's just my opinion based on what he was in high school, but , I think what the coaches are saying about him makes me think it could be the case.

You guys should do a post about Belotti's crazy wife. I think it was last year that she attacked a columnist in the press box and was allegedly drunk at the time. There is a lot about it on The Big Lead and Deadspin.

I was referring to Blount. I have a co-worker who is from Oregon, and all I have heard from him is that they aren't going to miss Stewart that badly. I don't think that Blount will be competing at Stewart's level, but everything I've read says he's good to great and our run defense hasn't shown me any big improvements. If Dan LeFevour can drop 114 yards on Purdue rushing as a QB, it gives me great concern to face a known rushing team like Oregon even if their 2 top backs are relatively unproven. I hope Werner steps up and outperforms my expectations, but I still see our run defense costing us this one.
