Next Step, Head Coach
Matt Painter's pal and assistant basketball coach has replaced Cuonzo Martin on Painter's staff as he was promoted to Assistant Head Coach. Paul Lusk followed Painter from SIU and has been on the Purdue staff for four seasons. The role as number two man at a major program that is relatively high profile, is the highway to a head coaching position. If Purdue has the success that some are predicting, I would venture a guess that Lusk will only be around for one-two more seasons in West Lafayette.
This will go on the shelf with

So that raises the question: does the upward mobility of your assistants and the acclaim their promotion brings your program outweigh the impact of their loss?
I want to say that as long as Painter's at the helm they can endure the shakeups. But, I'm always iffy on how the impact of departures like these affect all the behind the scenes action, especially recruiting.
Well, if his two target recruits are any indication, it shouldn't hurt too bad (he's 0-2 in the last year)...But I get your drift. I think Painter really wants to see his guys get their shot regardless of how much more difficult it will make his job; at least it seems that way. I think since the HC is more important in basketball recruiting, these types of changes don't hurt a program too badly...but they have to have some effect.
Hey, maybe Lusk is the guy in charge of keeping people in the program (it's a joke!).
