NFL training camps are opening up all around this great land and so there will probably be a bit of NFL posting trickling into these parts... I mean, what with the Boiled Sports success mesching going on around here ('dowd's Colts winning the Super Bowl in our first year, then my Giants winning it in our second... we fully expect Tim's Browns to take the title this year).
But I had to comment on Devin Hester currently holding out on the Chicago Bears, wanting a better deal. And for once, I can't blame the player in a holdout situation.
Hester is by far the most feared returner in the NFL -- maybe in history. He also led the team in offensive TDs last season, too. And he sees guys like Brian Urlacher demanding new contracts -- despite being in the midst of a $56 million deal -- and, well, he wants to get paid.
Devin Hester is slated to make $455,000 this year. Do you realize that there are likely many Bears season ticketholders who make more than him? That if Hester was just a fan, he couldn't afford the seats that people sit in to watch him?
Now, no, I'm not suggesting any of us cry for someone making almost half a million bucks a year to play a game. But let's just remember it's a brutal game that is often shown to shorten life expectancy and, oh yeah, the Bears are making millions off of guys like Hester. So he should get his cut, too.

Is Hester the Bear with the DUI against him, or was that someone else on the team?
You're thinking of Benson who pulled the rare Boating While Intoxicated and Driving Under the Influence double this offseason.
Well, they should give him some bonus money of some sort. But after already signing all of the malcontents, the Bears are strapped for cash. They couldn't afford Bernard Berrian. So guess who their number 3 WR is? Yep, Hester. He needs to get his butt in camp. Remember Dante Hall? Yeah, he had a bunch of return TD's and then the league caught on. Hester is probably fearing the same thing.
He has endorsements with Under Armor and Gatorade, so he is making more then 450G's
By the way, this is a Hester quote when Briggs was saying he was skipping the season:
“We had several meetings until I just really said that there’s no ‘I’ in ‘team’ and however I can help the team I’m willing to do it,” Hester said.
E - the league may be catching on, but the picture put up there by J was the Bronco's game last year, and they sure as hell didn't catch on during that game. I think Hester has something special that most just don't have.
I like Hester and think he deserves more than he's making...but I'm pretty sure he could afford about any seat with a $500K salary. Granted, he couldn't buy a corporate box, but club level-type seats would be affordable at that salary...As long as Patrick Ewing wasn't his financial advisor.
