In case you haven't heard it, Mark Spitz, the former super-human swimmer is now focusing on letting the world know that he's an arrogant, whiny prima donna. He's doing a damned good job at it too.
My college roommate, a regular BS reader, told me about the story, so I had to read it for myself. Turns out, Chris' account of what Spitz had to say is about right. Usually those in America who think they're entitled to something are young...Turns out, the culture of entitlement has rubbed off on this not-so-young former olympian.
Maybe it's because I really don't like the olympics and don't care enough to research it, but I can't think of any precedent in which the former record-holder gave the new one his medal(s). I don't remember seeing Komenich placing the medals around M.L. Retton or Flo Jo shooting HGH into Marion Jones, I mean giving Jones her medals. Regardless, Spitz needs to shut his stache.

Whats wrong with him wanting to be there to congratulate Phelps, should he break his record? Maybe your lack of interest in the Olympics should keep you from writing about them.
I know you're not serious. This has nothing to do with supporting someone else's accomplishments and everything to do with selfagrandizing. If he really just wants to be there to congratulate Phelps, NO ONE will tell him not to buy a ticket and go. Do you think the USOC would keep him from Phelps? I guarantee they wouldn't. But instead, he thinks he deserves to have someone buy his ticket. Who would this ceremony help? It would help Spitz, that's who. He want misses people talking about him...Well good for him- his antics have earned some attention!
I may not be a fan of the olympics, but this type of behavior is similar to that of Kobe Bryant, Danica Patrick or Terrell Owens...it transcends the sport they play. It's self-centeredness at its highest level...It's all about him.
This story presented the perfect opportunity to post your favorite picture from your Mark Spitz collection!
I have a 5ft. x 3ft. version over my desk in the office.
How is this any different than the typical attitude of your average IU grad??? Looks as if they have found the perfect representative for the university...
Jeez... No one INVITED him??? What a tool...you're old news, Spitz.
