Recruit chooses Boilers over Auburn

A "Prospect on the Rise" (according to Rivals.com) verballed to Purdue earlier today. Shayon Green, a player cut out of the same cloth as Rosie Colvin and Akin Ayodele is also a pretty good student. Green had offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, South Florida and others. Good pick up, especially in Purdue's system.

I needed to hear about some good recruiting news...now, I need more.

Here's his evaluation on ESPN:

"Green is a bit lacking in ideal height, but comes across on film as a fairly well built kid. He is active and gets around the football. He will move around the defensive line in high school, but will need to be more strictly a defensive end at the college level. He has a solid get-off, but needs to work to be more consistent in that area. Will flash the ability to fire off the ball low, but you would like to see that more. Green is a kid that will battle and fight to get to the ball. Does a solid job of playing half-a-man and that will help allow him to get off blocks. He needs to watch his pad level as he tends to play high. Also he needs to work on shooting his hands more and creating separation. Looks to deliver a blow and will lead shoulder first and allow blockers to get into him. With his high pad level he can be pushed off the ball some. Stays active though and can be tough to keep blocked. Displays solid straight line speed. He is a good wrap-up tackler. Can seem a little rigid on the move. As a pass rusher he will try and work to the shoulder and clear with a move. Needs to keep working to develop pass rush moves. Green is a solid prospect. He needs to keep working to clean some things up technique wise, but plays hard and displays the ability to give some production."
