UND and it's super-smart head coach have used their decided schematic advantage and nastiness to earn their way to the best bowl played on an island. Here are some fun facts about the upcoming game:
-The matchup forces me to break a promise I made to myself never to root for Hawaii
-The matchup with the Warriors will give Notre Dame its best chance to win a bowl game since Bill Clinton was in office
-Notre Dame's problem of playing in bowls that were out of their league, versus opponents whom they didn't deserve to be playing against, seems to have been solved...Well played, Manatee. You are playing precisely the quality of opponent you should be this post-season. Enjoy your trip, Domers!
Usually, I'm excited about Christmas Eve because I can't wait to open the present that J has bought for me...but this year, my anticipation for the next morning will be diverted as I get to watch two true college football powerhouses square off in Aloha Stadium!
Go Rainbows...errr...Rainbow Warriors...errr...Warriors!

Boilerdowd,
Don't you see? The excuse is ready made this year! They have to face a BCS bowl team in its home stadium after a long plane ride. Jimmy Montana's poor legs are going to get all cramped in coach!
I'm excited to hear such a schtick...Let's hope they get to fire that one off! They're in a no-win situation. Excellent.
No win? They won by getting a bowl bid. Having one of the weakest schedules in the country, going 6-6, and getting into a bowl? It seems as likely as the basketball team losing to OSU...
This constitutes the "piling on" Weis was complaining about last year... all I can say is "THANKS SYRACUSE!!"
And yeah, I guess I too now have to break my vow to never root for Hawaii; it will be nice to see that homecookin' WAC officiating crew do their thing. I wonder if they get holiday pay for this game?
That first bullet point is a tough one for me too. I will never forget how classless their players and fans were in 2006. I absolutely hate them.
Matt, it's for the greater good.
Would anyone prefer that they somehow went 10-2 or 9-3 and got destroyed in a BCS bowl game? That would help to grow the ND hatred nationwide and keep the bowl losing streak intact.
......nah!
No...winning 15 in two seasons is a much better option.
And even better than that is losing 15 in two seasons.
precisely...I do things too quickly and don't check my work.
Pity. For the longest time most bowl predictions had ND going up against 9-3 Rice in the Texas Bowl. That would be a sight: Rice-- a school that's harder to get in to than ND (and with a smaller enrollment), whipping the mighty Domers. One wonders if any politicking and dealing was done to avoid that matchup.
There was a time when so-so ND teams would actually turn down bowl game invitations because the coaches didn't think the team deserved it. I believe Holtz, in one of the classier things he's done, was the last to do that. But Holtz was ushered out the door and the ND Admini$tration threw away such crazy talk and happily cashed the checks (which, remember, the school keeps 100%-- no equal shares for conference members). I'm of the romantic notion that the school is forward-thinking enough to put this bowl check in the kitty as seed money for Weis' buyout.
Enjoy your quality time with those nice Hawaii fans, Notre Dame-- you (technically) earned it.
I was just thinking.....can you imagine how jacked up the locals will be to get a shot at Notre Dame? If they were so jacked up to play a mediocre, unranked Purdue team in 2006, imagine how excited they'll be to take on a storied program like ND. Cheap shots galore.
Honstly, I didn't think the fans were that bad out there. It must have been where I was sitting. They were very cordial to my wife and I. We were even in the middle of a big Hawaii section (our tickets were free from a grad student friend of ours out there)
I remember reading so many horror stories on GBI of Hawaii fans picking fights with Purdue fans in the stands.
When I say jacked up, I am speaking more to the Hawaii TV announcer talking like this was their chance to show the world how great they were by beating Purdue and the Hawaii players taking so many cheap shots at our guys.
Yeah, I don't think it was the fans as much as the players that pissed all of us off.... besides, how many fans do the Rainbows have?
What is the Purdue football team doing this bowl season?
The same thing Notre Dame's football team DESERVES to be doing.
