Boilers Win Rockfight in Iowa City

It's probably a good thing that I don't have the Big Ten Network and thus was not able to physically see the ugly 49-45 win the Boilers pulled off today at Iowa. The good news is that the Boilermakers shot 46% from the field and held on for the win. The bad news is their 3-pt shooting was a sad 19%.

Smooge shot a solid 50% and had a double-double with 16 points and ten boards. The Ostrich played 24 minutes but only was 1-7 from the field and finished with two points. Not good.

Good news also was Bobby Buckets getting some minutes in this one. While he didn't have the same kind of game as against PSU, more minutes for Riddell means others are getting rested a bit.

Enjoy that pic of the Hawkeyes and Boilers unis because it's probably the last time you're going to see them. As Boilerdowd detailed yesterday, Purdue is expected to debut their new duds on Tuesday night against MSU at Mackey. Speaking of that, the Boilers have now closed to within two games of Michigan State, with Illinois effectively ahead of the Boilermakers despite the same record (thanks to their sweep of Purdue). A win Tuesday would be huge, not only for keeping the conference race close, but also for this team's confidence.

Curious as to other takes on today's game since I could only listen to some of it and haven't seen it yet.

Officiating bad, as usual.

What cable do you have that doesn't have BTN? I thought everyone had it. Why don't you go to a bar to watch it? Just curious, don't mean to be nosey...

Here's my question: how do they decide the Big Ten if Purdue, MSU, and Illinois all tie, but we sweep MSU and MSU sweeps Illinois?

CO-CHAMPIONS

More precisely 'tri-champions', but F is correct; the #1 seed for the conference tournament I'm guessing would go to best overall record? Maybe we can get advice from the Big 12 on how to settle it... wait, nevermind.

A lot of b-ball to be played yet, but we can think positive.

J, if you aren't locked into a contract with your cable provider look into Verizon FIOS, they have a 6 month deal for phone/tv/internet $99 per month; if you have Comcast, by all means kick those asswipes to the curb!

I think the basketball is tired from all of Jake Kelly's dribbling.

We had lots of good looks from distance, but they weren't falling. Iowa is really bad. It was brutal to watch. I also thought Lickliter was pretty whiney. He demanded an explanation on every call that went against Iowa.

Also, I wonder if Lickliter is regretting taking the Iowa job. Doing a solid job like he did at Butler should land you in a better place than Iowa City.

The officiating was terrible, as usual. Is it just me, or have they been more inconsistant than normal this year?
That being said, we are a bad team made worse by injuries, and I'm surprised it was close.
Is Lickliter regretting coming to Iowa City? Hard to tell right now, but he knew that it was a bad situation talent wise. We're young still, but it's hard to see improvement most of the time. I think most Iowa fans have pretty much given up and are looking forward to talking about the spring football game. That's where I am

Regarding Big Ten tourney seeds: Record against the next team (or teams, if tied) is the tiebreaker after head-to-head. MSU already has sweeps over Ohio State and Minnesota, which are the two most likely next teams, so MSU probably has an advantage in the tiebreakers.

I don't think it will matter, as I think MSU goes 2-1 in the remaining three games against Purdue and Illinois (beat Purdue at home, split the two road games one way or the other).
