Big Ten Tourney Guessing

Here's the way I think it could go...Not too bad for our Boilers- Beat IU a second time, avenge getting swept by the Illini. Thoughts?

I don't know about Wisconsin beating MSU, but I would love another IU beatdown.

I think your bracket is good. Wisconsin does look their former selves and make a good run. I would love to see IU get the shit kicked out of them again but I think PSU has too much too play for. And I would not be surprised if Northwestern give MSU a nice run but will most likely lose to MSU. But I really want to see Purdue take care of business against Illinois, finally. Nice bracket I just hope Purdue can do something unlike the past couple of weeks.

I'm with Jake - don't see IU beating PSU, at least not this year. I don't see Wisconsin making that kind of run either.
The nice thing is that the games should be like a home game for Purdue.

I wish we could have another chance to whoop IU, but there's no way they beat PSU. A Saturday game vs Illinois or Michigan would be tough.

And we apparently get avenged by Wisky.... I don't know, if we made the final I would expect a win over the Badgers in Indy.

Most tourney projections have the Boilers in the 5 range. Any chance of climbing with a Big Ten tourney championship?

I would rather see us as a 6-seed than a 4/5 seed.

I would hope that we wouldn't get beaten by Ill again, as they say it is hard to beat a team 3 times in a season. But, I think that is exactly what would happen with that match-up. If we happen to get to the championship game vs. UW, it don't see them allowing themselves to get beat by the same team 3 times in a season. This is now the confidence I have in this team- pretty much the same as I have had for the past 3 decades. They just don't want it enough to get it done.

Oh yeah, I think Ill or MSU wins the BTT.

IU played PSU as well as they played anybody all season...plus the reversible jackets will be out in force expressing how much "they believe" in Crean; don't rule them out.

J, do you remember how Purdue lost to UW in Indy, with a better team in the BT championship back in '01 (I believe)? Just sayin'

IU's played 20-35 minutes of good basketball several times this season, and they nearly tripped up Michigan State in Assembly Hall. Sure, the Spartans probably cared thismuch about that game, but still ... plus with a 5ish tip, any IU fans in Indy with tickets can duck out of work just a touch early and make it to the game. Also, blah blah this is their NCAAs blah blah.

I could definitely see the tournament going like your bracket. Northwestern possibly playing into the tournament, Minnesota and Penn State playing out of it. OSU losing because they suck. I'd like to see a monster win over IU here, but I doubt it would go that way.

I guess we might lose to Illinois when Kramer is shot by someone on the Illini bench as he drives for a layup, but Hightower doesn't call a foul because they can't find the casing.

Crack. Smoking.

That's how I'd describe the predictions. Here's my toke. ;-)

No way MSU loses to Wisky. I think this tournament is eminently predictable. Purdue and MSU in the championship round, Purdue wins due to home court love.

Minny sees the forest for the trees and wins over the mildcats, but still gets NIT solace because of their soft and fluffy out-of-conference schedule (then loses to NU in NIT) how's that for love. :>

Michigan wipes the floor with Iowa and Illinois, but goes cold against the Boilers.

Penn St. does it's duty against IU but cannot match good inside presence from JJ.

Wisconsin steals one from OSU, with lots of fouls and an NCAA tourney limiting injury sustained by one of OSU's players.

The big winner? Other conferences. Three months of brutality distilled into four days of playing leaves the Big 10 (11) weakened and we only place 2 teams in the Sweet 16.

U heard it here first.

Whoa, thanks for stopping by, Nostradamus!

With details as finite as injuries in specific rounds, you can surely see the future

You're guessing like I am...your opinion is worth the same amount as mine- $0. I'd love to see Purdue win the championship, but the idea that it's all but an inevitability is foolishness. If history is any indicator, MSU or Illinois are going to win it as both have had success in the tournament, and 1 and 2 seeds have won this event each year except two...And, Purdue is only better than Michigan in its BT tourney history...and that's because UM was stripped of a championship by NCAA sanctions.

Hey boilerdowd,

Exactly. I said it was my toke. It wasn't a misprint, Prurdue diddnt not teech me not how to speel good. LOL! You got a problem with reading?

All this stuff is woofin' and predictions with zero reality content. Past performance is NOT a predictor of future results, otherwise UCLA would just win most of the time and we wouldn't need an NCAA tournament. I figure that if your bracket has Wisky winning it all I can take a bender and predict all sorts of shit. It was fun to write. ;-)

Trends do exist for a reason...and while you still "play to win the game" some coaches have formulas in tournaments that work...some don't.

Case in point- Gene Keady- he had no clue how to coach tournaments.

Conversely, Bo Ryan, Tom Izzo and Bruce Weber have all had success and seem to understand what to say to their players to calm them down or get them up for games.

Two final things- sarcasm is and always will be difficult to detect via printed word no matter how many silly faces there are in a message !*(

Second, who are you and why don't you have a name over here? It'd be easier to have a conversation if we knew who you were.

boilerdowd,

I know, I know, I know. Right on all counts. I maintain my position that it was fun as all hell to write. Indulgence is a weakness of mine - thus I've enjoyed re-reading it and the point-counterpoint that has followed. ROFL!

I have a name here but I freakin' forgot my password. So you'll just have to know me by my MAC address. From this day forward I'll go by 0016D4A22850. Until I decide to change it. Or I remember my password.

Oh, and one more thing. Purdue still wins.
