Notre Dame Dominates...Yet Again.
We all saw what UND and Pickles can do when they played a lousy defense at the end of last season...but they really got to show their stuff this weekend as UND's offense played UND's defense in South Bend.
The quarterbacks, two former number-one recruits out of high school, Crist and Pickles gleamed like the golden dome. They went a combined 12/27, 0 TDs, 1 INT (for a TD).
Ooh, ooh, but Joe Montana was there to watch his son!! It was awesome. Nate Montana wowed the crowd with an aerial that included a pass to the third-team tight end for 34 yards.
But the awesome passing wasn't the only story. UND running backs pounded their great defensive line* for 4.2 yards/carry...and scored a ton of points and they all got to do coordinated dances after each score...it was cute.
Is everyone else thinking what I'm thinking? Probably not, but, are the echoes waking up again, seriously this time? Regardless, Irish football is once again rising to glory.
*Great defined as #45 in the nation v. the run
This will go on the shelf with
2009 Notre Dame football domination begins,

Hoping that Ryan Kerrigan and Mike Neal get very intimat with pickles on 9/26 at 8pm.
You're just jealous of Crist and Pickle's hair. I think they must use Pantene Pro V.
That is one very active coach. He should use a Rascal out on the field. That way he could have a cup holder for his jumbo Slurpee and not have to worry about holding that and his hot dog and his play sheet at the same time.
Never understood the name "pickles" but hey, whatever works for you. As long as Ryan and Mike don't get "intimate" with him after the game I guess it's
all OK. Don't want to upset God or anything.
Thank god for Charlie Weis. I makes sparring with my wife (a Purdue and Maryland alum, but former South Bend resident who cheers for the Irish, go figure) and father in-law that much more fun.
Linky-no-worky. Never mind.
acacia1602:
It is a reference to Claussen brand pickles.
Ahhh. Now I get it. Check out the brains on Brad! ;-)
Thx dude.
You mean Brett?
Why the national press continues to buttfrench this man and this program is beyond my means of comprehension. His overall winning percentage is below that of Bob Davie and Ty Willingham, and the stakes these days is much, much higher. Oh well, at least all those Domers can truthfully say "Hey, he's better than Gerry Faust!" And for anybody that wants to point to past glories and history, all I have to say is that the University of Chicago was a legitimate football powerhouse once too (the UofC was a founding member of the Big 10, has an undefeated football record against UND, and boast the first-ever Heisman winner), as was Army.
Ahh, how I miss the days of Noble Kizer battling UofChicago at Stuart Field.
Pickles: 20-35, 275 yds, 3 TD, 38-21 win last seasons.
i'd be more concerned with my football team coming off a 4-8 campaign and heading for another.
Anon -- as we've said many times, our criticizing an overrated program and an overrated coach has absolutely nothing to do with the Purdue program. But thanks for playing.
You're right, Purdue football wasn't good and there are concerns. Of course, they also aren't always ranked as having top 10 recruiting classes and nationally-recognized "talent" and exclusive deals with NBC.
One has nothing to do with the other.
Also: "buttfrench." Outstanding.
Look, if we're being honest with ourselves, there is no reason anyone should have expected more out of ND two seasons ago. When you break in 14 new starters, including 4 lineman, a QB, and RB's, no matter the star rankings, you will not be good, no matter who the coach is. Rich Rodriguez found this out last year as well and I would say he is a damn good coach.
Last year, they probably underachieved somewhat but they were an extremely young team and they did what young teams do. Play close games against teams less talented and teams more talented (save the annual USC debacle) and blow leads because they aren't used to winning yet.
Have no fear, if they don't win big this year, Charlie will be gone. Given the talent level and a lot of their traditional opponents being down this year, less than 10 wins (pre-bowl) is underperformance. Looking at their schedule, I'm thinking they start out 5-0 with the question mark in the first 5 being the home game vs Michigan State. The only games I see as question marks as USC (obviously),BC, and Stanford. Even their tougher games have teams that are breaking in numerous new starters (USC, BC, MSU).
As far as the Purdue game, it's too bad this game will be on national tv in primetime because there is a good chance it will be ugly. ND is 7-2 in primetime regular season games under Weis w/ 2 losses being to SC. I fully expect a game similar to 05. Just to much talent at ND for even Weis to screw it up for them.
I am a Purdue Alum, and I think its hilarious how much attention Purdue gives to Notre Dame. It has to be out of Pure Jealousy.
Let's face it, Notre Dame will pound the Boilers who Barely beat ND when ND was on their way to a 3-9 season! You Better HOPE in change, because Notre Dame will be dominating the Boilers for the next 10 years, and I will love every second of it!!
I also want to see what you would be doing on the sidelines after you had your good knee repaired and still dealing with the bad one! I enjoy most of your posts, but maybe less Notre Dame and more Purdue would be good for the site.
BOILER UP! (except on 9/26)
William, trust me, we're not "jealous" of Notre Dame. I know mom told you when someone picks on you on the playground it means they're jealous... but she was lying.
Let's do a quick count:
6 Purdue football posts, 1 UND post, 1 post about the Purdue/UND game stating facts.
That's 7:2 for those of you like William and the the big bad anonymous Her Loyal Sons jack who comes over here talking big.
I'll admit something- I'm jealous that Notre Dame gets bags of cash for being a piece of sh*t football program...and that NBC has a big megaphone telling the world about the high ethics of UND when I know, because of my friends who are UND grads' anecdotes that these kids are just like other colloge football players. And their coaches are not the pillars of the community that they're made to be. Yeah, that pisses me off. I guess it's not jealousy, it's really wanting justice.
UND, Jack Swarbick, Kevin White, Coach Weis, Coach Willingham, Coach Davie, Jimmy Clausen, Brady Quinn, Carlyle Holiday, Matt LoVecchio, Arnaz Battle, Jarious Jackson, Ron Powlus, Deke Cooper, Luke Petitgout, Anthony Fasano, Joey Goodspeed, Ryan Harris, Maurice Stovall, Grant Irons, Tom Zbikowski and Julius Jones have all taken the large amount of resources, publicity, strategic advantage and 5-star, blue-chip talent and yielded 1 bowl win in the past 15 years...The steaming pile of manure that they call a program is nothing to be jealous of...and the mixing of pseudo-Catholicism, Voo Doo, and pop-culture should be an embarrassment to Catholics everywhere.
And William, you're a fool if you believe what you said...granted, you probably did your undergrad work at UND or believe you should have gone there at some point, but while you're an alum, no Purdue fan would say what you just said. And by the way, University of Florida lost more starters a few years back...and their coach, who Domers like yourself lust after earned a national championship. Excuses stink.
This raises a point we'll get into more and more in the future... part of having your own site, one might argue, is that there's a responsibility to give honest opinions, etc. We're not a news site, we're an opinion site. And our opinion is that UND sucks, is overrated, is arrogant, etc, etc, etc. If we didn't voice that, we wouldn't be being ourselves... this does not make us "jealous" or "inferior." We just think more of the truth about that joke of a program should be put out there instead of the shower of bullsh-t that actually gets put out there by NBC, UND and the like.
More to come. Get used to it.
If you're not jealous than why does Purdue think its a rivalry and ND doesn't give two shits...
If you're not jealous than why complain about all the money Notre Dame gets for have a large fan base of (yes a lot of stupid people are fans for no reason, but same is true with any popular team).
1 bowl win in 15 years... solid point... but what Bowl games have OUR boilers won? nothing worth mentioning? I would rather go to multiple BCS bowl games and lose than go to 2 rosebowls in the history of the School!!
Yes Notre Dame fans love the past, but doesn't everybody minus the Red Sox..
Notre Dame last finished in the top 5 in 1993... when was the last time Purdue did it... 1960's. The most relevant Purdue has been was 2004 and then they tanked.. and PURDUE fans are okay with the mediocracy! That is why I will cheer for the Irish time and time again over the boilers! I don't care that you hate Notre Dame, it makes it better every time ND beats Purdue.
Gene Keady is great, but they let him stay way too long. They had a championship Coach for women's basketball and they let her leave because they wouldn't pay her, Tiller stayed 4 years too long, HOPE is not going to be a good coach... he had a year to RECRUIT and his class SUCKS!
I just hope that Painter doesn't leave anytime soon!
So hate Notre Dame all you want, but at least they are TRYING to win. TRYING to be better.
And Yes I am a Proud Purdue Alumni and I am Proud Purdue Staff Member as well! But my boss isn't okay with me being mediocre, he wants me to continue to get better, atleast someone at this fine instituion feels that way for employees.
You cheer for Notre Dame because you make little sense. Please continue to do so...and none of this reversible-jacket garbage. Stick with your love for the Irish- UND isn't just a football program, it's a school. Root for Scott Martin and his new team mates in the winter...the real Purdue fans/alums will be cheering for Painter and "mediocracy" over in Mackey.
You contradict yourself quite often times in your response. You say it's important that UND is TRYING to be better, but you also say all that matters is that Notre Dame was in the top-5 in 1993. That makes no sense.
Why in the hell would you care if Painter stays or not? According to you, he doesn't fit at Purdue unless he accepts "mediocracy" (I believe you're going for "mediocrity" there). If you really believe the problem was that fans and the Purdue family didn't demand enough, wouldn't it make sense to actually press for something more and try to change, especially if you're so "proud" of Purdue? No no, that's too difficult...It's easier to just go root for UND; makes a ton of sense.
I do agree that much of Purdue's fanbase accepts things as well-enough too-quickly/too-often. But not all Purdue fans are that way. We complained about Tiller for three seasons before he resigned. There's no doubt that he wore out his welcome. We also agree that Gene Keady wrecked his legacy by holding Purdue hostage in his late years.
You are completely full of nonsense on the rest of your response though. Notre Dame claims to be an institution that values character. Yet, when they had a coach with character, they fired him because he didn't win enough. Then, they hired a coach without the character of his predecessor...and he doesn't win as much...and he still has a job. That's TRYING? TRYING what?
UND doesn't think of Purdue as rival because they are delusional...that's probably why you like them; you fit in up there. UND fans believe they're on par w/ USC & UM...those schools wins national titles...and a lot of games in the post-season. UND and Purdue are actually pretty darned-good rivals...neither has had much success in the post-season, and they've played eachother pretty even in the last few seasons. UND doesn't think of MSU or BC as its main rivals either...and both of those teams also beat UND regularly.
Lastly, while I don't know how well Hope will do, I do know that not one season has been played under him...once again, you've taken the easiest possible stance and ruled out success before a down has been played under the man. But go ahead and believe that Weis' successor, whomever the hell that will be, will dominate Hope the next 10 years.
