Calipari is not implicated in this. Guys like you will still try to connect the dots, but to say "Calipari cheated" when his name isn't even on the report is just stupid.
Also, you say UK fans decided to go this route... funny, I don't remember UK asking for input from anyone. Like it's our fault or something. Oh, that's right, the UK fanbase is too demanding! We ran Tubby out of town! We didn't give Billy G enough time! Give me a break - you know nothing about the situation. As much as you rail against ESPN and the MSM, you all too often pick up their tired arguments and sound just like them.
Many, many media outlets are also asking if this will force Memphis to forfeit the final four they achieved while cheating. (Not the first time, remember...that doesn't help...how do you think the NCAA will react the third time he's found to cheat in a year or two?)
This isn't connecting the dots...this is opening your eyes.
But keep on looking the other way, you're going to step in it soon.
And it's fine if you disagree, anonymous, but 'dowd predicted the Sampson ending from the day he was hired and if you open your eyes it's not that hard to see. One of Calipari's biggest recruits cheated to become eligible so he could play one year of college ball. Even if Coach Cal truly didn't know, he does have some measure of culpability.... people need to take responsibility.
And we're not saying he should step down from UK or anything silly like that... we're just saying, be careful what you wish for. You may indeed get Final Fours, but the program might also get involved in shady activities -- something longtime UK fans should actually know something about.
The suck thing about Memphis (or FSU, or anyone else) possibly losing wins, final fours, etc. is that the celebrations are over and with the exception of Bowden, nobody even cares that the books have been re-written.
Until Brand grows a sack and the NCAA starts punishing the coaches more harshly for these offenses (and for all of them - Kiffin, I'm talking to you) then they won't stop moving around and leaving their baggage behind (for the most part).
If I was a UK fan, the scary thing for me now is that there is all of this incoming talent and I imagine that the NCAA/UK compliance might take a closer look at all the events surronding the decision makers (and various hangers-on). If nothing is out of the ordinary, good for Calipari/UK but if anything looks quesiontionable, or eligibility comes into question, you have now lost a handful of blue-chippers amongst other things (I honestly don't know enough about any of the kids who are transfereing or leaving for the draft, beyond Jody).
Either way, keep up the good writing BS. (and I'm on summer break now so expect more comments from me - gotta love being a teacher).
Oh, and Billy "Glide" wants $6+ million for early termination, or whatever his lawyer is calling it. UK will be tossing money around like crazy over this whole year!
I tend to think UK will be okay because I think Coach Cal is slippery enough if and when he's being shady. He's not as sloppy as Sampson was. Kelvin Sampson was either:
1) Really stupid. 2) So arrogant he thought he could do anything. 3) Unable to help himself, sort of like an alcoholic... he just had to keep violating the same rule b/c he couldn't contain it.
As for Dizzy Gillespie, the dude never signed his contract... despite working there for two years. Smart.
Billy G is committing career suicide. If it goes to trial, all of the nitty gritty about his time at UK will come out. That includes all of the bad player treatment, extracurricular activities, etc. He'll have trouble even getting a non-BCS job then (well, even more trouble than he's having now).
But maybe that's his point. He wants to get enough drinking money for the rest of his life and never have to coach again. We'll see... he's hired an ultra pricey Texas trial lawyer with a great resume.

And it doesn't even have anything to do with Worldwide Wes. Barely the tip of the iceberg.
Memphis' student-athletes might have been not completely on the up-and-up? I might need to sit down. Oh, wait, I'm already sitting down.

I think I might have just stepped back in a time machine. Isn't this the same bull IU fans were spewing a year and a half ago? Hilarious.

Thanks for your patronage.
(by the way, what's MSM?)
Mainstream media.
