Ain't No Party Like A West Coast Party

I rather love this photo (via Deadspin) of LA fans, purportedly celebrating the Lakers latest championship. Look at the pure joy on the face of the lad on the right as he hurls a metal trash basket at an LAPD cruiser. Not sure what the guy standing on the trunk of the cruiser is doing (or about to do) but hey, all in good fun.

No word yet on if these guys even knew the Lakers had won or if this was just another Sunday night in lovely Los Angeles. Up yours, Randy Newman.

How 'bout that party in Iran?

You haven't seen a party until Cleveland wins a championship.

There'll be nothing left when it's all said and done.

I think that's a cop throwing the trash bucket. :-)

Party on, Wayne. Party on, Garth.

Acacia -- Nah, click on the photo to see it larger... not a cop.

Tim -- no doubt.

A friend of mine recently asked- "shouldn't only the losing team riot?"

Fair question.

Fair question indeed, 'dowd. ;-)

Pittsburgh just won the Stanley Cup and 300K fans came out for the parade, just like when the Steelers won the Super Bowl -- and there was no rioting. When the Yankees were winning their titles, there was no rioting. When the Cardinals won the World Series a few years ago, no rioting.

Yet, Philly riots when the Phils win, Chicago (I believe) used to riot when the Bulls won, we all know what Detroit fans do whenever they get any excuse, and here we have L.A. being idiots, too. I don't get it... not even trying to make a commentary here... just don't understand why some cities, despite passionate fans, are peaceful while others are littered with hoodlums.

I like how Purdue had a riot for women's basketball in 99 and 2001, and the one in 2001 (a loss to Notre Dame in the title game) was bigger than the win in 99

I remember hearing the '99 riot (which was in front of Cary, mainly) from my apartment on Sheetz Street, which was a few blocks SOUTH of campus... ridiculous.

I remember thinking, I can't imagine what would happen if the men won a national title. Egads.

I lived in Cary during hte 99 riot. Those windows weren't exactly weatherstripped, as tear gas leaked in my room at about 4am. Good fun!
