While not doing a bad job by any means, Ferentz nonetheless has always seemed to be a marginal coach to us. Yes, they've had some huge wins in his tenure and that's admirable. But, again, when you're averaging a 7-5 season, how big are those wins really?
$3 million is a lot anywhere, but in Iowa? Man, that guy can have any tractor he wants.

That 3 year stretch of double digits wins was impressive. Everything else has been nothing exciting.
Haha. Program defines mediocrity.
3 million a year?
That's the type of money you pay someone who "knows where the bodies are buried", so to speak.....
C'mon guys....easy on the tractor bashing. A lot of tractors in the greater Lafayette area. Don't forget, Purdue is a Land Grant University. I expect better out of you. Especially if you are comparing the rural areas of Iowa to Indiana.
it's always weird to see what people take issue with.... my tractor comment? really? I was trying to think of something you might buy in Iowa.... would it have been better if I'd said he could buy a lot of Steak-N-Shake? Kolaches? I don't know what's there, so I went with tractors b/c I KNOW they're there....
FYI - Kolaches are from Nebraska. Just so ya know...
Actually, Kolaches are from Poland, if you wanna get technical.
Kirk Ferentz has done a lot for the Iowa Football program. Most notably he has 2 Big Ten Championships (okay, co-championships) and 3 top 10 finishes. And that's makes us Iowa fans happy.
Also worth mentioning that part of his new contract includes access to a private jet, though he only gets 35 hours of usage a year.
