Whimsical Mention of Our Boilers

Pete Fiutak of CFN likes some of what he sees out of our Boilers:
"Purdue might not be any good, but this is one fun team to watch. Either Joe Tiller kept the wraps on Danny Hope, or else this is a whole new Boilermaker squad that’s playing like it did when Tiller first took over. Ralph Bolden is this year’s breakout, out-of-left-field, running back superstar."
I agree on almost everything he says here...but I think this team is actually pretty good and is going to get better.

Joey Elliott might have a first half of a season like a Frosh, and a second half of the season like a 5th year Senior.

One thing under-reported in CFN's many weekly columns is their weekly ranking of all D-1 teams. Even in a loss, Purdue jumped a healthy 11 spaces, from #60 to #49 from week 1 to week 2. Actually, CFN's preseason rankings had the Boilers at #83. Oregon actually -dropped- 11 spots in the win, from #37-#48.

Of course, I'm more interested in the W-L tally at the end of the season and if our boys can earn the "Spoilermakers" tag (haven't heard that one in a while) by sneaking up and ruining somebody's season. But it's nice that the press are starting to take notice of this pleasantly surprising team.

Even if the Boilermakers have a less than eventful season we can all enjoy ourselves while watching Drew Brees this season.

Would the hint of a potential jump to TerBush light a fire under Elliott's ass or just scare him into more bad decisions?

Thoughts.

I like Elliott...I wouldn't mess with him, yet. If he makes critical mistakes this week, I'd do what Tiller did with Dicken years ago and bring in the back-up for a series to send a message.

While I truly believe Elliott deserves to be the starter, I'm pretty sure that Hope understands that no player is out of the running for being benched...at least temporarily.

Elliot is the man for the job this year. He's playing like a true Freshman, but has on the field IQ of a 5th year senior. We don't need to get into a QB debacle this year.
