Last week's ballot |
Dropped Out: Texas Tech (#18), Brigham Young (#19), Kansas (#20), Nebraska (#21).
First off, yes, I put Texas at #1. Florida, we've all agreed, has been up there because of their reputation and the fact that they're defending champs. I'm not saying they're not the best team -- I think they probably will turn out to be. But the past few weeks have been less than impressive. And so the consensus was to put Alabama #1. And then on Saturday, Alabama should have lost at home to Tennessee. Gotta love that uber-powerful SEC. So, based on that performance, no, I don't think 'bama should be #1. Meanwhile, Texas continues to roll. So yes, they're number 1 this week.
Iowa and TCU jump up. Impressive wins for both. Iowa's for not having the loss a lot of us expected and for winning a tough road game. TCU for absolutely crushing BYU. That was a no-doubter. Nobody ever gets to see them, but TCU is good.
USC, yes, I still think they're very good, and their road win was impressive, too. But I just think TCU and Iowa's teams are more impressive right now.
I feel a little bad dropping Boise State, but their wins just aren't impressing me enough and the teams around them are winning big games. I'm actually tempted to put LSU and Oklahoma State above them, too. Check out the Cowboys, folks -- one 45-35 loss to Houston away from being perfect.
Miami -- did I drop them too far? Possible.
Thoughts welcome.

You made the same mistake with Miami and VT again. VT dominated Miami. They should be swapped.
I don't view the rankings the same way you do, I don't think. You can't take one game and apply that to everything and ALWAYS have that team above the other one, in my opinion.
Having a different opinion is not a "mistake," sir.
I agree. Case in point Houston and Okie State. Houston's loss to UTEP was bad enough to put them behind Okie State.
But with VT and Miami you have them 16 and 17. If they are going to be ranked consecutively like that, then VT should be ahead considering they are both 5-2 and VT won 31-7 H2H.
Monday afternoons are always so entertaining- I love watching people argue about the Blog Poll!!
You didn't drop Miami too far. We watched hte game after getting home and their defense couldn't stop C.J. Spiller and a redshirt freshman quarterback. I think it showed they are still a year away, but the defense was awful Saturday.
