Pro Basketball News

I think the regular readers here know how much of a fan I am of John Calipari and the University of Kentucky for hiring this pillar of the NCAA coaching community. So, of course, I'm as shocked as you are when I hear that Calipari's crown jewel of the incoming Wildcat class might not be eligible this season.

We have all come to recognize AAU basketball as a place where snakes lie in the grass and use talented young players as the chips that get them rich and powerful...so none of this is surprising in the slightest. But, if Kentucky fans don't like the SEC and the NCAA sniffing around for answers, they had better decide now not to root for UK now- it's not going to get any better.

Be at peace though, friends in royal blue, the NCAA will probably continue its long history of doing little-to-nothing to the cash cow programs of the Title IX machine.

I am seeing parallels between Kentucky's deal with the devil and IU getting in bed with Sampson.

Yeah- this is awfully fast...just like IU's situation.

You guys have no idea what you're talking about on this one.

This has nothing to do with Calipari (he was in Memphis, remember?), and Wall will be (and should be!) eligible. This happens all the time in AAU (coaches paying for some travel expenses, food, etc.). And that's all legal/within the rules. The only difference here is that the coach was also licensed as an agent, but he never even used his license (0 clients, gave up the license shortly after the time period in question).

People will be trying very, very hard to connect anything to Calipari and his players for the rest of his tenure at UK... get used to it.

Duke's Ryan Kelly played for the same AAU coach, where's the article on him? Pat Forde has an agenda, wake up!

Same as Sampson?? WTF? Cal wasn't even coaching at UK when the kid was playing and traveling with Brian Clifton. That's a far cry from consciously breaking recruiting rules...

I guess I get it - you guys don't like Cal or UK, and that's ok... but to say this is anything like what happened at IU is crazy talk.

Boiler up and Go Big Blue too

And just like with the IU situation, the fans are in complete denial. Loving their cheating coach despite what anyone else in the country says...

Nate, the next few years are going to be tough for you.

Any time Calipari's team is close to problems, you're damned right people like Forde are going to blow the whistle. Slick Cal brought the attention onto himself. Eventually, something will stick and he won't be able to run out of another burnt down college town for the next stop.

Sorry your wagons are hitched to a sinking ship.

I guess Teflon John is a better nickname than Slick Cal.

I am down here in Memphis in fact getting my masters here at U of M and they hate that man. Calipari might have brought good fortune when he was here but when he saw the storm coming he packed up and left and now Memphis is picking up the pieces. I can't say they should have seen it coming since his expoits at UMass. The writers are going to be like sharks on him and deservedly so. I am not a big fan of Memphis since I bleed gold and black but I will take a little pride with them if Calipari fails at U of K.

dowd,

I do understand the shark mentality and going after Cal... and you're right, it will continue... however I don't even see that he is close to this case. Perhaps you'd like to explain how he 'cheated' here? By not having anything at all to do with the situation? To say it is anything remotely like the IU case is laughable and you have to see that... you are, after all, an intelligent person, or come off as one in your writings.

Calipari's relationship with Worldwide Wes is pretty scandalous. Its time for Worldwide Wes to now start steering top recruits to Lexington instead of Memphis.
