Danny Hope thought we were living in America, but apparently not. Because when Ralph Bolden hugged Purdue Pete, Purdue -- and America! -- got slapped in the face with a 15 yard penalty.Hope's quote is great:

I said, ‘What did that do that for?’ and they told me he was hugging Purdue Pete. I thought, ‘You got to be kidding me. This is America.’ Who knows? Nothing surprises me anymore. It seems like a bit much. It’s not like there was groping or anything. It’s unbelievable."
Indeed, coach. What did that do that for? Wait, what?
Anyway, as mentioned, Purdue AND America have been penalized 15 yards and as a result, Canada will now begin 15 yards into

And somehow not a single holding was called. You can't call every hold, but that crew seemed to not be interested at all.
I was watching the game and I saw the hug - it was a second long and it was purely spur of the moment. Why was Pete wearing a mustache?
Anyway - pure crap on the part of the official.
I think Hope is going a little far in his statement about American, but as far as college football goes, its crap.
No single group of employees in the nation steals more money from their employers than Big Ten officials...both men's basketball and football.
They discredit the conference at every turn with their lack of consistency and discernment.
I thought the penalty was a little uncalled for but I will say as a former 'Pete' that I am sure glad I wasn't the one that was 'responsible' for the penalty...

That is a great quote from Hope.
The penalty was crap. It wasn't as if Bolden ran over to him or seeked him out as part of a pre-meditated celebration. He was there, so he just hugged him. He didn't show up the other team or taunt the other team. I was shocked they threw a flag.
Not sure how many of you were at the game, but they showed the replay of the hug about 5 or 6 times of the jumbotron and each time the crowd booed. I dont get it, I can celebrate with the mascot on NCAA 2010 but Bolden cant do it in real life?

Absolutely the single most ridiculous thing I've ever seen penalized.
