Sunday Headline: ESPN's Joe Schad reports that a jubilant Stanford fan threw a can of Slim Fast at Notre Dame Coach Charlie Weis, giving him a black eye. Weis is still expected to give his post-game press conference before receiving his pink slip.
Did Ara Parseghian run over your kitten when your were kids? Did he back up and run over it again? I mean come on man.
As a Purdue Alumnus, I annually look forward to the Boilermakers laying waste to to the Irish, be it in the house that Ross-Ade built, or in Notre Dame, IN. Other than that I could care less! To me this looks like the guys who are snubbed by the head cheerleader at prom and heard later to comment "whatever, she's fat anyway."
Guess what, relevant or not, ND has tradition. It's a tradition of winning. A tradition that actually includes National Championships. A tradition of not having eight hundred frickin cheerleaders, fifteen mascots, and a kid dressed as the Cookie Monster on the sidelines.
Last I saw we weren't drinking haterade on Texas A&M, or Syracuse, or Army, or University of Chicago, or any number of schools with rich football histories that have come off the tracks.
It's this Indianapol-centric thinking that doesn't take in account that huge amounts of people still watch ND.
According to previous sentiments, not made by this person, the Purdue/ND game is not a rivalary. At least this is what some of us like to think that some of them think about us...my eyes just went crossed.
At least every major sports teams fan base is 30 precent douchebags. If you don't believe me go to a Boston Red Sox game.
And really, if we are going to vent this much hate on someone, why not Ohio State and Michigan? Two teams with legions of D-bag fans and two games that mean something in our conference.
Patrick did not attend Purdue... good try though. And, if you really read this blog with any regularity, you would realize that UM and OSU are routinely criticized. ND just seems to be getting the news lately.
The only tradition Notre Dame has had the past decade or so is being overrated! Just because they have won national championships doesn't make them incredibly special. I didn't realize there was a Purdue alumni that didn't get sick of the constant drooling of the media over Notre Dame year in and year out! Every single one of Notre Dame's games is nationally broadcast, yet they continue to lose! Sure they used to win, but they don't anymore! It is ridiculous the amount of butt kissing goes on by the media on Notre Dame!
Right or not I am a Purdue (and Big Ten) fan and a Notre Dame hater. I couldn't care less about the other teams you named and couldn't even tell you what conference they are in. I'm not going to change, nor do I want to.
Oh, that last one reminds me...how many other programs in the nation have a network devoted to fawning over their every move? I guess it's none, isn't it.
Not USC, aOSU, UM, Florida, 'Bama...nope, none of them.
Alright, I'll talk about all of the other big-timeprograms that have a special set of rules set up to make sure they get a better-than-fair look for a BCS slot.
Darnit, there aren't any of those either.
Oh well. I guess we'll just keep smacking the pinata.
By the way, I have to say that even though I gleefully want Notre Dame to lose each and every week, what happened to Clausen is inexcusable! He did make a poor choice (in my opinion) in colleges, but I wish no one bodily harm! He is a 22 year old kid! He should not be assaulted by anyone, let alone his own fan, just because he made the poor choice of playing for a loser program with a loser coach!
I find this bit of Schadenfreude funny. I'm sure at some time we've all wanted to jack the QB after a game, but gawd, who would actually do that? Only at ND would the guy actually get hit. 10 bucks says the perp is a subway alumnus. ;-) That divinely special status of ND cuts both ways.
Chad's right, though, no student should be assaulted for being a student athlete, or for his/her performance. I *guess* Clausen is a "student", pretentious stretch Hummer, hall of fame speech and all.
If you guys think he was assaulted by a fan, unprovoked, for no reason at all... and he was minding his own business, not mouthing off, not being the obvious douchebag that he is... well, you probably also believe in Santa.

I would've gone with
"Clausen keeps one eye on Stanford"

Patrick,
None of the schools you listed are Purdue's rivals.
None of the schools you listed have the legions of idiotic fans ND does.
None of the schools you listed have an arrogant fatass for a head coach.

Have you heard a Mark Mangino?

What'd you study at Purdue, by the way?

J-
I couldn't agree more. There's more dirt to the Clausen story; I just fear we'll just never find the answer.
Keep fighting the good fight.
Boiler up.
Hey lets hate on navy too cuz they're damn dirty independents.
Indeed, Patrick. Navy and ND are exactly the same.
