IU got dump-trucked down in Puerto Rico yesterday by 18. Everytime the scrappy Hoosiers would make a run, Ole Miss would slam the door shut.
IU fans were enjoying their third game on TV...first on a national stage. IU is not ranked.
National Champs Fall
To *everyone's surprise, the reigning National Champ, Penn State Nittany Lions fell Thursday to the always gritty UNC Wilmington Seahawks. PSU looks to rebound today v. Tulane.
At least they get to lose on TV. Penn State is not ranked.
More of the Same
There's no shame in losing to UNC (on a neutral court, no less). But, aOSU's all-around badass, Evan Turner, had double-digit turnovers in Thursday's loss at MSG. The Bucknuts boast of four former 4-star recruits and a 5-star on their roster...and most are very experienced. But it looks like the inherent problem with Thad Matta-led teams is going to haunt this season yet again...there's no order on the team and when all-else fails, they tend to underperform.
Buckeye fans were enjoying their third game this season on TV...their second national TV game. aOSU is 18th in the nation.
Like a Virgin
Purdue plays SDSU tonight at 8:30 in the Paradise Jam Tourney (that was clearly planned by my son's pre-school class)...gather 'round your radios and enjoy all the action. In a collective effort by EsPN, BTN and the Purdue athletic department, Purdue's basketball team continues its all blacked-out season for '09...and is still 7th in the nation.
Come on, yo!
Just got an e-mail from the PAA that was selling the Wooden Tradition...of course, they had two of Purdue's current players on the promotional photo in the current uniforms:

*everyone in this case is defined as people who think the NIT is important

They should've had Bobby in his current uniform: a business suit on the sidelines.
As much as I would like to see my Boilers on TV*, I'm okay with the black-outs for now. We like to sneak up on people. The team can be like ninjas, or commandos, sneaking through the bush, going out and quietly grabbing trophies. That is, until they play a ranked team and all hell breaks loose.
Really, this is all about the AD department not doing its job and getting them out in front of people.
* my wife is happy with me not watching them on TV because then there is a lot less yelling in the house.
I don't see how this is a BTN issue. The Big Ten Network has rights to home games for Big Ten teams. This is clearly not a home game for Purdue.
The other options is for the tournament to be carried on another network (ESPN, Fox Sports). They apparently chose not to do televise these games, which isn't a surprise since I've never heard of this tournament.
Wooden Email = Incompetence.
This kind of stuff drives me crazy as well. Are they really that ignorant? Do they realize they are using an old picture of old uniforms with a graduated player? It makes me want to NOT go to the Wooden despite the fact I live in Fishers. Ridiculous!
Also, on the Wooden......nevermind the fact that its against BALL FUCKING STATE. Who wants to go through the hassle of driving downtown and parking downtown for that?!
Ok, let's be real. If driving 25 minutes from Fishers to the sprawling metropolis that is Indianapolis is too much for you, it's time to take a vacation to a real city and realize that Indianapolis is very easy to get around, and traffic is very rarely a problem.
Disclaimer: Yes I'm from Indiana and I love our capital, but really. It's very easy to get to/around downtown.
I'm really diggin this Paradise Jam. 1/2 hour ago the website said "Service Unavailable" and now it looks like http://i47.tinypic.com/2yxnnra.gif I guess ESPN is a better source for acurate scores.

Purdue has had home games that BTN failed to televise... I don't think they were blaming this particular game on BTN. Both BTN and ESPN have already had a parade of crap teams on air, so I think a lot of us are a little upset that our alma mater, a top 10 team, has been left out in the cold.

Truer words were never spoken... although I complained about a 15 minute commute when I lived in a smallish city. Now I drive to downtown Atlanta, so it's all relative :)
I realize Indy downtown is a lot easier to navigate than a larger city like Chicago, but its still a hassle. It takes 30 minutes to drive there, gotta find a place to park, etc... In my view, its more convienent and easier to drive to Mackey.
I live in Greenwood, and downtown is a 15 minute drive, park in mall parking right there for $3 and have a 5 minute walk to Conseco. No big deal, and even though they are playing Ball State, I already have tickets to be there supporting the team. This is a once in a decade Purdue team, I'm getting out to see them as much as I can.
As for ESPN and BTN...they can suck it. BTN should have had the 7th ranked Boilers on last Friday and instead they had the Loosiers vs Howard...UNACCEPTABLE
Penn State national champs. haha! That never gets old.
If people want to park at my apartment and save the hefty sum it costs to park in the big city, hit me up. It's about a 10 minute walk from my place to Conseco and we can pre-game first.
Boiler up.

The TV business is still crying over spilled milk. Let's look at MSU, clearly the darling of the conference, the National Runner-Up last year, and a team that gets better ratings than Purdue. MSU's first two games, exhibition games, were streamed online at bigtennetwork.com - just like Purdue's exhibition game. Both was shown on tape delay on BTN a few days later, just like Purdue's game.
MSU's first real game was streaming on espn.com on a Friday night, just like Purdue's first game. In fact, they were on at the same time.
MSU's second game was against a nationally known program, Gonzaga, and was on ESPN. That makes sense. If it wasn't on ESPN, it would've been on BTN since it was an MSU home game and an attractive match-up.
Purdue's second game is in a third tier island tournament against a team that plays IPFW about 10 times a year. BTN doesn't have the rights to this game and ESPN isn't covering this tournament since it is in a small, relatively unknown tournament.
I fail to see how any of this warrants repeated complaining. Things like this are why people don't fully respect blogs.
Von Nostrand --
So IU against Howard was an attractive matchup?
You're entitled to your opinion. Do NOT, however, belittle ours.
Thanks.

We're a bunch of Purdue fans that want to see our (very good) team on TV. I fail to see why in the world you care what kind of 'respect' that does or does not earn bloggers... I'm guessing J and dowd don't give a rat's ass either. It's a Purdue blog, expressing the opinion of (a lot of) Purdue fans. Deal with it.
Way to belittle the constructive viewpoints of your readers. That's a good way to build a blog. If you're going to make a series of blog posts on a subject and you allow comments in those posts, then you should be prepared for a constructive argument on the subject.
The Purdue and MSU games on November 13 were on ESPN360 because ESPN gets to pick games before the Big Ten Network. ESPN chose the more high-profile games because they want to increase the awareness and traffic of ESPN360. While this is a raw deal for the fans, it isn't, as you say, a "conspiracy" or disrespect against Purdue or anyone else.
Way to belittle the constructive viewpoints of your readers. That's a good way to build a blog.
Uh, von, I said you were entitled to your opinion. I then instructed you not to belittle ours.
Oh, and we're not interested -- not even a little bit -- in your opinion of how we should "build a blog." It's built, we produce content every day and if you don't like how we do it, please feel free to never come back. Again, you're entitled to your opinion, but don't be a jackass and lecture us. Keep it on the topic at hand.
