Fun With Polls -- All About Being Tops

The college basketball polls are meaningless right now, obviously, but I do think it's fun to keep tabs on the weird whims of the voters. Last week, Purdue was #6 in the ESPN/USA Today poll and #4 in the AP. AP voters must have decided they had Purdue too high and the ESPN/USA Today voters were more accurate, as they dropped the Boilermakers a spot to #5 after a 2-0 week where the Boilers won their games by an average of 23.5 points. Sure, makes sense.

Meanwhile, they jumped a spot in the USA Today poll... so at least they match now. Nothing like a matching pair of..... poll results.

What did you think I was gonna say?

win two games, one against probably a team that's a lock for the tournament (WF) and drop a spot? Que?

Looks familiar to my post in the comments on the The switch flips on.

Has Kansas beaten a top 25 team? Has Texas? If you are looking at wins against top 25 programs, the rankings might be different like Purdue 1, Florida 2 or something to that effect. Either way, maintaining a spot in the top 5 throughout the season would be a very good sign.

Only thing I can think of is that Kentucky beat UNC and that's why they swapped spots with the Boilers. Seems silly, but whatever.

Meh, it makes perfect sense. Purdue passed Duke who lost in the coaches poll, but Kentucky had a big win and passed them in the AP poll. Kentucky was already ahead of Purdue in the coaches poll.

Even while moving down a spot in the AP poll, we actually gained a few votes. Moving us down wasn't a reflection on us, just Kentucky. But yeah, polls are useless.

Last week we leapfrogged Kentucky after beating Tennessee, this week they leapfrogged us after beating UNC. No big deal, IMO.

What? No comment on Turner at OSU?

Oh, yeah, Evan Turner fell down and went boom while showboating.

I kinda find it ironic Turner will have back problems and probably have to wear a brace like Hummel last year.

Cracked some bones - out about 8 weeks. And backs can be tricky. The bones may heal but he could still have pain for a while. Just like Michael R says - ask Hummel how it feels.

Showboating is fun - to a point.
