Note To Paint Crew: Please Return.

January 11th isn't so far away...it just seems like it.

Sure, J and I haven't had to walk the halls of the Bursar or taken a lecture in c/o 50 in over a decade, but we remember what it's like to be students. Around this time in the Christmas break, it can get boring. You miss your pals...miss the co-rec...miss the freedom of being away from your parents' home.

I can say with all confidence, young men and women of Purdue, we as alums miss you too.

I know, I know, the old people tried their best to fill in for the real Paint Crew last night versus Minny. And against WVU, a skeleton Paint Crew (if you will) carried the torch as well as it possibly could. But there's not substitute for the real thing...Come back to campus soon! The team needs you!
Is it me or are college chicks hotter than ever?? (huh??)

The folks with money who had the tickets last night played the role well of starving college students. They had matching black shirts and even a couple of cheers that mimicked the best-darned students section in the land...But we need the real thing to return- the opposition hates you guys...and we love you for it.

Agree that a full Paint Crew makes a big difference. These games in a dead Mackey arena can be trouble. Its good Purdue got through them in one piece.

Wasn't that home loss to Illinois last season during christmas break?

Sure was, that game was early January.

We will be back in full force for the Jan 12th game vs. OSU, never fear. Thad Matta and his gum better be ready.

It was terrible watching that game on TV. As a 5 year Paint Crew member, nothing pains me more than not being there.

The collared shirt under a t-shirt is always a terrific look.

J - at least the collar wasn't up.

The WVU game seemed loud on TV, but that isn't a very good predictor of what it is like in person.

Plang,

While we only had a small portion of the paint crew present, Mackey was sold out and packed. It was VERY loud at times. It appears that the alums and fans that bought up the PC seats were of the loud variety, not the JPC osteoperosis types.

I was at both the WVU and Minnesota games, and the difference in crown intensity was palpable.

It took almost the entire first half to get the crowd to cheer against the Gophers. Even the depleted Paint Crew at WVU were on their game from the get go.

Come back students.

By the way, is that Harrison Ford in the collared shirt?

I was initially shocked to see this pic, but hats off to these people! Not only are they paying tribute to our b-ball team, but to the Paint Crew as well.

That's special and something you hardly ever see anywhere in college basketball.

It's good to see Kirk Ferentz was in Mackey last night too.

i was at the WV game, and it was actually pretty loud in there, louder than i ever remember it getting. But that was the biggest game in years, and it had been about ten years since i had been in Mackey...

but i love how they introduce the Paint Crew as the 6th man when they announce the players.

Don't go back to Purdue too soon, make a trip to Madison to cheer on the boilers there first!

I went to the WVU game. It was impressively loud at times, but not often enough and not for extended periods of time. A full Paint Crew would have made a big difference.

I love the gumby costume at games. I am a grad student but have a sweet JPC hookup so my season tickets are 4 rows up in the section just left of the band. The Paint Crew is awesome when they are there. I definitely felt Minnesota had an advantage that most teams don't have, but the Boilers were able to pull it off.

Hey Gumby - don't go slapping people on ESPN anymore.

PurdueCE -- we'll be looking for you.

The crowd did make some noise in the first half of the Minnesota game when they finally changed the visiting team on the scoreboard from "Iowa" to "Minnesota" at about the 13 minute mark.

That was an embarrassing mistake to see.

Apparently SI.com reads BoiledSports:

I had to break up the link so it would fit in the text box but hopefully you can copy/paste it.
