Matt Painter has decided to indeed shake up the lineup, and feels thusly:
Asked if changes were coming to the starting lineup, Painter said, “I’d like to start E’Twaun Moore, E’Twaun Moore, Robbie Hummel, Robbie Hummel and Robbie Hummel. No one else deserves to start, but with that being said, E’Twaun Moore needs to get some rebounds."
So don't get too big for your britches there, Smooge! You need to get some rebounds! Presumably, twice as many as usual since there will be two of you starting now...
Expect the new-look Boilermakers at Illinois on Tuesday night at 9 PM, Eastern.

That was B.S. from Coach!! Calling out his senior(s) KG and the Cap himself, or co-captains. Yes I agree with BoiledSports. I'd like to see sophomore year KG too. It's been rough. That rebounding margin at NW was Baaaaad. JJ needs to play big vs Tisdale. Look out for M.Davis too. Damn Weber and Jay Price love to beat their old team.
Want LewJack and Marcias in lineup and pine ryne and pine patty bade. Yes, Bade is a freshman, he young, still learning, but he is not ready yet. At least he is indeed getting valuable playing time to see how to play, but I'd like to see what Marcias..sandi has (even though I never seen him).

Need the seniors Kramer and KG to lead the way and Hummel and 3twaun to "MAKE SHOTS" (damn NW students). JJ play big, watch the fouls, and rebound.

I agree with a bunch of what Matt says. I've said it since Novemeber Ryne Smith is awful. Why does he think he has the right to take crucial 3's?? KG, I loved you bud, but it's time to sit, can't have 2 defense only guys starting. Kelsey would be the obvious choice, so longs he plays smart. He makes freshmen mistakes sometimes. I'l still trying to figure out Byrd's value. But make no mistake the problem here is 1 thing and 1 thing alone: JJ's regressing. He has tendancies to play dumb and lazy. To me he plays almost like Tyrus Thomas, aka Bumslayer. No post moves other than turn and shoot or catch and dunk. Doesn't rebound like someone of his size should. And his hands are bad. Products of his strength. Question becomes: if he plays lazy, maybe he's lazy in the gym, which is why he can't put on weight. Everyone's body is different, but E'Twaun and Hummel bulked up nicely.

How about trying a little zone to stop the dribble drive so JJ doesn't have to defend a driving guard at the rim?
Michael, you got it! We need to run some zone to protect JJ when he gets in foul trouble.

I think Matt Painter would be in the ground in a coffin before he ever puts a zone defense on the floor. Just not going to happened. And it shouldn't.
We just need to start playing better basketball. I wouldn't mind seeing the occasional press on in addition to the defender picking up the ball in the back court.
JJ has everyone confused. He COULD score 20 a game...and do so with that crazy, turnout, shoulders not squared up to the basket but somehow he throws it in anyway....if he had any kind of footwork at all/ post moves, he might be more effective against a collapsing defense....of course when there's 3 defenders collapsing to the ball, there should be a weak side cutter open to the basket if JJ can make the pass.
Ben, I agree with you, Painter is strictly man-to-man it would be nice to see some zone though when JJ is in foul trouble. You're right, we just need to play better basketball. Help-side has been coming late.. especially in the NU game.. gave up way too many layups b/c of late help-side. I think its all a product of we're just not hustling enough. Which is also why we're not getting rebounds. Tonight is a big test for sure, even if we lose the game at least we can lose it with some effort unlike our losses to OSU and NU.
Michael shows his lack of intelligence again! A zone?! How is playing a zone supposed to help our rebounding woes. Answer.....it won't.

Why do you continue to write personal attacks against me? This is an open forum to discuss the Boilers, not rip each other.
As for my comment, it was related to foul trouble and stopping the driving guards that Wisc and OSU used to defeat the team.
You need to read the posts with less hostility so that you can analyze them.
Driving guards aren't nearly as much of a problem as rebounding. I suggest you watch the games before giving coaching advice. A zone defense would only compound our rebounding problems. Horrible idea.
And benching Grant helps rebounding? Step away from the crack pipe!
There is NO solution to defensive rebounding, except effort. This is what Painter was talking about.
However, I'd be interested in seeing the reboudning +/- when JJ is in the game vs +/- when he is on the bench.
I'm sorry but if you're any kind of Purdue fan, you know a Keady/Webber guy will never toss a zone out there, nor should they. The day you do that is the day you alienate the fan base and can no longer have the "Play Hard" scoreboard. This is Purdue, Man to Man.
With well executed Man D we shouldn't have to worry about JJ.

I like the line-up, but after the last two games, at least two of the Hummel's need to be wearing face masks. I'm sure we can photoshop them in.
