Damian Johnson Throws Down The Gauntlet

Quite simply, Damian Johnson thinks Purdue isn't as talented as everyone makes them out to be. In fact, he thinks Minny is just as talented. Ready to accuse us again of taking something out of context or "reading into" something? Here's the story and here's the money quote:

"They get pubbed up a lot and I just don't feel ... I feel like we're just as talented as them," he said. "In my opinion, they're a good team, but to me, they're not as talented as people believe."

It's rare that guys say things like this and then almost immediately have the chance to back them up, but tonight is that chance. Minnesota might provide Damian is right. But even if they do, this seems like a dumb thing to say.

Damian, just out of curiosity, have you ever been hit by a train?

(Thanks to multiple readers for pointing this out in multiple mediums.)

Now this actually makes sense since he's talking about Purdue. It is always interesting to see how people back up trash talk. It usually doesn't end well for the trash talker and probably won't tonight.

I love this....Hopefully it finds legs and will tape itself on the wall of the visitor's locker room tonight.

Interesting... So he says we're not any more talented, yet we have a better record.

So does that just mean that we're more disciplined, or better coached, or simply "want it more"?

If we're not more talented, what shortcomings of Minnesota's program explain why they've lost 10 games and we've lost 3, and why they lost to Michigan at home and lost to Indiana at all?

Personally I am scared about tonights game, I have been for about 2 weeks. But this definately helps our motivation. When will these kids learn that firing up the opposing team is not exactly the smartest thing to do. Damian is playing with fire, just like my boys N-Dubz. Straight up homey.

According to our research staff, Minny's got 3 4-star players and a 5-star, on their roster.

Purdue only has 4 4-star players. So on paper they've got the Boilers edged out.

According to the same Rivals site, Purdue has four players who have been all-conference (some multiple times) on the first second or third teams in the last two seasons...Minny has 0.

I think Brad's onto something...but I hope Minny believes they're facing an under-talented, over-hyped team this evening.

It's that same kind of attitude that keeps certain teams and individuals from ever reaching their potential. One thing for certain is that they have more criminal accusations against their team than we do. One day damian will probably be saying, "well, we flip our burgers just as well as burger king does...i just, like, don't feel like we have to, like, prove it."

Its put up or shut up time. Here's hoping our boys put up and shut up Damian.

Pub? We don't get any pub. ESPN and the major networks are too busy fawning all over Kentucky and the Big East.

I think I understand why a player would say that, and in an era like this, I guess you probably can't say it anywhere without someone hearing it. I think it would work better inside a locker room before the game, but then I've never been in that situation myself.

Here's hoping it backfires completely. Obviously he couldn't have caused Robbie's knee to buckle.
