I Guess It's Good That Hoosiers Can At Least Read

I loved this account of the trip to Bloomington posted by our Twitter-verse friend Sara, where she shares the rather hilarious (and yet sad) account of how few IU students seem to actually know their school's fight song:

The band played Indiana’s fight song every now and then, and I noticed that they really only knew certain words–mostly the ones that mentioned “Indiana.” Well...the words to their own fight song were put on the jumbo screens and, surprise — everyone was singing. I was almost in tears I was laughing so hard.

I'm sure someone on an unread IU site would take issue with this account, but it's rather hard to refute if there are witnesses.

Maybe they should put their own school's fight song into their pregame notes for the students. You know, instead of the nonsense they currently put in there.

I can definitely corroborate this account. We were only a few rows from Sara and, yes, they either didn't know the words or didn't care enough to sing them. Weak.

really? come on I don't know the entire Purdue fight song and really I could care less. I'm sorry but this isn't the 1950s. Students aren't going out in their school sweaters and singing the fight song.

"come on I don't know the entire Purdue fight song"

Learn it then.

"and really I could care less."

??!!

Mathew with one "t", I'm going to have to disagree strongly with you here. It's not difficult to learn a fight song. My 3 year old son and nephew both know Purdue's.

Mathew,
I hope you know the chorus, at least.

Wow, that is weak. I understand if a student who doesn't follow sports doesn't know it, but if you attend the games you should know the school song. Granted, I just learned the verses this year, but EVERYONE knows the chorus. Heck I learned it my sophomore year of high school because a Purdue Alum teacher of mine had a bobblehead on her desk that sang it.

Not knowing your fight song is WEAK.

It is obvious that Mathew is an IU fan- his snippiness and the fact that he doesn't care if he knows the fight song. Pathetic. Most fans I know even know the 1st verse and not just the chorus.

Did anyone else see the IU student holding a sign that said "Engineers should not be allowed to play NCAA sports"?

What the crap does this mean? Are they making fun of Purdue for having one of the top Engineering schools in the country??

You should only be allowed to play NCAA sports if you are "undecided"...

I'm an MET, and was watching the game with two EE's and a CivE... we didn't appreciate that sign one bit. It was probably some communications major.

They never sing the entire school song except during the under 8 minute timeout. All other times it is played they clap, do the IU, and sing the "Indiana's" loudly. That is their custom/tradition. Just because it isn't the same as PU's doesn't mean it is something to trash them about. In fact, it kind of shows how incompetent you all are

That sign was probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen at a sporting event. Had me laughing for several minutes.
