Why was there no pressure on the inbounds pass? Why were there 3 defenders in the paint with 2 seconds left and a full court to go? Were they expecting Christian Laettner part 2?
Yes it took a great shot by Turner to win the game, but he never ever ever should have been allowed to even sniff the ball.

Darn. I really thought U of M had that game. I hope that game didn't fire up OSU to continue on their run...
Cincy did the same to WVU last night... allowing an open in-bound pass to WVU's best player for the game-winning shot. Pathetic coaching.
The entire Syracuse situation ticks me off. If we win out and have only lost the MSU game (1st w/o Rob), we should still be in the discussion for a number 1. They lost to UL twice, lost their only BE tourney game, and have lost 2 in a row (all but a few minutes with all players). Now, it Onuaku goes down for the season, what possible argument can be made that SU is a lock and PU is a lock out?
PS I hate aOSU and all of their horrible fans!!
This is Michigan's season in a nutshell.
Illini rising...
If you need more proof of why to hate Thad Matta, watch Hightower need to escort him away from the Michigan bench. I would have loved nothing more than to watch him get T'd up and Michigan hit free throws to win. What a pathetic display from a head coach.
The entire building knew Turner was getting the ball. Sims certainly wasn't doing much in the lane, why wasn't he on the inbounds man? Why do coaches not get this? Why was no one pressuring Turner up the court? (See Minnesota's last-second regulation possession against MSU for a better example of defense, although they still didn't put someone on the inbounds guy.
Matta sucks. I think all he did during timeouts was tell his team "try a little harder, they're catching up", because for big parts of the game, it honestly looked like they just didn't care.

This is what I shot from my seat in section 11. I'd like to claim it was skill, but I probably just got pretty lucky.
Terrible coaching.. they let ET catch it in rhythm running towards the basket.. I think UM was in a 1-3-1 zone.. WTF you think they're gonna have time to drive the ball? You know its gonna be in the villain's hands so why not double team him and make someone else try to make a difficult shot? UM gave that game away.
That was some pretty awful strategy. You got to pressure the inbounds pass and you got to pick up Turner before halfcourt and make him go to his left.
Going back to this, I disagree with everyone, including my co-editor. Michigan forced Turner to make a shot he probably doesn't make almost any other time he takes it... man in his face, etc. By not pressuring the inbounds, UM made sure there would be no passes deep that could result in a ten footer or a layup. 37 footers don't go in that often.
And yeah, I was wondering about Matta's reaction towards the UM bench... but the ESPN/CBS coverage was, predictably, terrible.
