Yee-Haw! Boilers in Tejas

For those who are interested, I went to the Purdue open practice session at Reliant Stadium this afternoon and documented it on Twitter.

If you're not on Twitter yet, the photos are available here and the videos are available here. Some videos are just random shoots of practice, video 3043 is Matty doing some coaching.

The guys looked pretty loose and the shooting was very crisp. Lots of buckets made by lots of different guys. It's always easier in a nearly-empty building with no defense out there, but still. I'd rather that than a bunch of bricks.

Some general observations:

--Sandi Marcius is flipping huge. Dude makes Bade look like a twig.

--Bubba Day can shoot the lights out from the elbow three.

--Lewis Jackson makes 90% of his midrange jumpers in practice. It'll come along, everyone.

--Rob Hummel was sitting courtside in shorts, sneakers and two knee braces. He looked ready to practice. Heh. If only.

--Matt Painter watches like the godfather, only stepping in to instruct when he sees something he really wants the guys to work on. Otherwise, he does a lot of observing.

--Kramer has a very nice shot, though we all know that. He needs to keep using it.

More to come, on the scene in Houston.

I hope the Boilers are watching Butler take it to the Cuse. If a lil ole team from Indiana named Butler can beat a #1 seed in the tournament, so can the Boilers (the school with the most Big Ten Championships of anyone)...

Choo choo...

These pictures are awesome.

However, I need to hate on Syracuse for a minute. When Onuaku went down and the 'cuse lied about his health so they could secure a number one seed, their fan base exclaimed, "He is just a role player. It isn't the same as Hummel. They will still make the FF and he will be back then." Now that they lost, he is their excuse.

It brings joy to my heart.

Today a friend tells me that Purdue fans are acting like they won the national championship already and they need to settle down. He says Purdue was the lower seed in each game so Purdue winning was expected and its nothing special.

Thoughts?

Well, technically your friend is correct, but my guess is that if we'd lost to Sienna the same friend would have said, "I could have told you they were going out in the first round as soon as Hummel went down." Someone is always going to try to piss in your cheerios when your team is playing well. All of my IU friends have taken the "enjoy it while it lasts" tone. Forget the haters, we have good reason to be excited for tonight's game. It's a shot at redemption for last year's BT ACC Challenge! BTFU

Anyone know what the line was for the Texas A&M game?

Funny you should ask. I was in Vegas for the the A&M game. The day before Purdue had 1-12 odds, then dropped to 1-8 right before the game. A&M was favored by 1.5 points right before the game started. So, the odds-makers thought it would be a close game and gave the nod to A&M. When I left Wednesday, Duke was getting 4.5 points and Purdue was at 1-16 odds. I do not know what it is today, but I'm guessing those will drop just a little before the game.

But remember this: Syracuse was picked to win by the Vegas odds-makers, with Butler getting similar odds as Purdue. So they have been known to be wrong before.

Duke is an 8.5 point favorite right now.

I really hate how the NCAA puts these games in giant empty football stadiums. Why not use the home of the Spurs or Rockets?

A good article from Ted Miller about CK.

About time CK got his props.
