Boilers to Wear '01 Rose Bowl Unis; No Word on Rose Helmets

In an interesting bit of uniform trivia, the Boilermakers will wear "throwback" uniforms in honor of the 2001 Rose Bowl team (2000 season) on October 16, Homecoming, against Minnesota.

I actually liked these unis a lot, even though I remember some of the players not liking them at the time. I still have my Standeford #82 black one.

As you may have heard us lament numerous times, one of the unfortunate parts of this uniform (aside from the clumsy "AT&T Rose Bowl" patch and "Purdue Rose 2001" patch pictured here) was the fact that Purdue elected to wear a helmet with a rose threaded through the "P" on the helmet.

When Boilerdowd saw these helmets during warm-ups, he claims to have known we were cooked. (Tim and I didn't have high-roller seats and thus were too far from the action to see this detail live.)

I'm glad they'll be wearing the unis but I do hope they leave the rose off the helmet.

I agree. They shouldn't have done it then, they shouldn't do it now.

I wouldn't do it again for the homecoming game, but I liked the rose for the game, even though I didn't see them until I got home and saw pictures.

Personally, I was pretty sure we were cooked when I saw we were playing a team much better than us.

Purdue should have beaten Washington in that game but shot themselves not in the foot, but in the face, repeatedly with dumb penalties.

Also, due to an unfortunate accident, I had the pleasure of sitting in the handicapped seats. Pretty nice I must say. I did find it stupid that there are about 2 million fans in that stadium but the 3 entrances to it are about 9 inches wide.

No exaggeration.
