Can you taste it?

It's close, very close now...football season is almost really here. My older brother sent out an e-mail reminding us that Christmas morning was coming this Thursday night as College football officially kicks off- love this time of year.

We're about 4 days out from kickoff, and everybody loves UND's new head coach. He's the perfect fit. Blue and Gold Illustrated, via USA Today tells us that numerology might point to UND winning a national title this season...The odd brew of Catholicism, VooDoo and superstition that makes up the UND football lore has room for numerology to be brought into the mix, I guess.

None of the trappings matter Saturday as the teams square off and the season finally begins. Will Brian Kelly be successful? He might...he's been great everywhere else he's coached. But, before you start shaping a statue in his Campbell's Soup Kid-esque image outside of UND's stadium, just remember we've been down this road before.
Other saviors have walked through the stadium gates in South Bend in the last fifteen years...yet they all fizzled...some quicker than others.

I've said it already- I don't really dislike Kelly yet...he hasn't given me reason to, but that'll come eventually. Perhaps it'll be Saturday, maybe later, but it'll happen, I'm sure of that. Ty Willingham is a pretty likable guy...but for three years, I couldn't stand the sight of the man or the sound of his voice...NDC helps that process along by painting video pictures of Saints in shoulder pads each season in South Bend. Their fans help throw logs on the fire just by being who they are...but right now, I'm more excited to watch the season begin than I am to watch Purdue v. UND.

Purdue's in a perfect place, in my opinion. They get the opportunity to face a very talented and well-coached team the first game...and no one really think's Hope's squad will be victorious...so there's nothing to lose. The coach and the players alike have said this team is a work in progress as it collectively figures out exactly who it is and how it's going to be defined.

A nearly completely-rebuilt offensive line, new quarterback, new running back corps (with an exception here and there) and an all-new defensive backfield are all parts of why the team has been inconsistent during camp...there's talent, speed and size everywhere, but not experience. But in my opinion, there's reason to believe the 2010 Boilers can do big things.

This schedule might be perfectly-designed for this specific team. Honestly though, I don't care who they're playing, I'm just ready for Purdue football season to begin.

You don't have a reason to dislike him? Ask the Cinncinati players from last year that. He bails on them before a BCS game after they played their hearts out for him in the Big East Championship game! Our Lady of Football would have waited if he told them he was obligated to coach through the bowl game. But no. Kelly punks out and lets down the players he recruited for a tarnished dome. He's a scumbag.

Did I fall of off your brother Bill's distribution list? Too many snarky replies?

Success gentlemen! My hatred for the irish is way past the boiling point. For legal reasons, I hope I don't pass anyone on the street casual sporting their apparel...

I wonder if there is any way that Purdue can incorporate this chant in their warm ups cuz God knows we need to bring this intensity back... we need to get a swagger about ourselves like Drew B be having... lol

I will be going to the Utah-Pitt game on Thursday, so I'll be all wound up for the Purdue game on Saturday. Can Not Wait!

boxer- a couple points.

First, I don't like Cincy, so the way he left doesn't affect me too much. He's been consistent, never lied about being courted, but instead, like a politician, just deflected the questions. So that's not enough for me.

Now, wouldn't you want to leave too if someone made you a part of such a commercial? I'm not saying going to a god-forsaken place like South Bend is the correct move, but moving on just makes sense.

T-I don't think you'll hear any cocky domers on the street yet...but once they've won two or three games, they'll come out fo the woodwork. Keep your hands in your pockets to avoid cold-cocking anyone at that point.

AJones- I think you're going to see intensity this season...and hopefully, Brees will give a pre-game talk before Minny.

Lang, you get to see a dandy...hopefully the 'stache gets smashed, a bit...Go Utes!

Does the fact that your Boilers were 2-1 versus TW and 1-4 against Charlie Weis have anything to do with your like/dislike levels?

1-4 is pretty embarrassing....Navy did better than that.

Go back and re-read it...perhaps a second time will help you comprehend what was written.

Don't forget why the Manatee was so hatable -- this guy was the most arrogant (unjustified) SOB to don the Irish head coaching headset in a really long time. I mean, honestly, what Irish coach have you hated this much?
