Onward and UpwardAfter a nerve-racking soap opera of a day, and nearly a week of rumors, conjecture and theory, there is only one fact that we as Purdue fans care about: Matty will return as Purdue's Head Basketball Coach.
We're still not happy that this conversation/flirtation/courtship took so long to put to bed, but we're glad it's over and that it ended this way. That said, Purdue's administration and athletic department needs to make changes in the coming months to avoid allowing this to happen again. Is that a restructuring of budgetary practices? Probably. Should personnel changes be made? Absolutely. Will any of it happen? Who knows.
What we do know is that Painter's quest for more resources has yielded him what he feels he need to succeed...Now Coach, we can't wait to see you bring home a national championship. The bar has been raised.

OK, take a couple deep breaths, all you worriers can relax. Who knows how close he came to leaving, why he listened, or any other details. All I know is if someone legitimate sought me out and expressed interest in hiring me I would certainly listen. Painter made the decision I would make based on my limited understanding of the atmosphere and conditions he works in and what he wants out of his career. Now, let's get some size and a guard who can shoot and beat someone off the dribble. Thanks for staying, Matt. BOILER UP

Assuming this isn't another false report... Great job Matt. He has taken it to Burke and received the support that he feels will help the program get to the next level. I will be honest, though, had he made the other decision, I would not have been supportive of him because I would have felt that he took it too far and would have basically shoved the program lower than when he took over. However, I feel like all of the drama may have been worth it. I don't think he would have stayed if Purdue didn't meet his high demands. On that note, though, I still think that Burke must go. If this is what it takes to make him look forward, we need to replace him.

From an alum in CA: Time for those who haven't contributed (myself included) to step up.
How about a BS article on the Athletic Department's financial situation and the best way to contribute? The JPC has several options: JPC, athletic scholarships, Mackey Projects, paving bricks... Which would help the basketball and football programs the most?
Second that. AD finally stepped up. Time for the alumni to do their part!
Shouldn't they actually communicate to us what the best way to support the program is? If they don't, they just missed a golden opportunity.
Also, they need to freaking get with the 21st century and have a way to sign up for JPC online.
I wonder how many of the people who wrote letters to the JPC stating their displeasure with the initial letter from the JPC will write a letter thanking the JPC, Burke, and the athletic dept for stepping up to the table to secure Painter's future at Purdue? I know Matt had the final say but he obviously thought the Purdue offer was better and Burke came through by either offering/agreeing with the terms Coach wanted

Andrew, I actually combined the two, as I would hope many others did. It's a basic communication trick anyway: you couch something bad between good things, so you start and end on a good note.
So my email said (to paraphrase)

At the very least, someone needs to update the athletic department on the world of the teens (2010-2019, that is) ... while it was big enough news that Painter was considering Missouri, in addition to our hosts, other sites also got copies of the initial message and saw it in a similar light. Someone who's got a better ear for 21st-century communications needs to help out at times like this.
That aside, yes, we do need to step up and support our school as best we can. If the letter was accurate with respect to available funds, then they've just committed extra money to Matt, and that's going to come either from higher ticket prices or generous alumni/ae. (Or both.)

You can choose one of three areas: JPC, JPC athletic scholarships, or Mackey Arena complex. If you choose JPC, you'll become a member. (That's what I did in 2009; not sure if choosing scholarships has the same effect.)
So it is possible online, but they should be more explicit about how to join online.
@andrew, i'd rather ask for burke's resignation very ugly past few days, sad a painter had to push the program to get to this to happen

Wait, we should thank the administration for finally making programs like basketball a priority? Thank them for agreeing to stop nickle-and-diming the coaches?
I think not. They've still failed greatly, in my eyes. This should never have been an issue.
This ordeal shows there are definitely issues in the AD that need to be addressed.
My first step is joining the JPC (I think it can be done online, although it is not obvious). Step 2 is emails to the AD and JPC.
But is it really Burke and the athletic department's fault for Missouri contacting Painter about their vacancy? Were they supposed to just offer Painter a new and better deal when just a couple of years ago they secured a long term contract if no one else was interested in Painter? With Painter having that out in the contract, it is just like a Free Agent in any pro sport trying to shop around to find his fair market value.
They should have made this commitment last year and avoided this whole mess. The athletic department needs to make football and basketball the only priorities. Once those get rolling the funds will come for the rest of the sports.

Absolutely you can donate/join JPC online. Use IceT's link above, and designate it to JPC.
I have used this method to renew the last few years. Easy, and you'll get a very quick acknowledgement and membership card in the mail.
