Some outside blood wouldn't be a bad thing. Painter thinks a certain way about basketball, and filling he staff with people that don't have much of a different viewpoint isn't really good. I'd like to see somebody from a different sort of system, maybe even outside of the Big 10. You know, like maybe somebody that wouldn't be afraid to mention that being able to switch defenses occasionally can be a good thing.

Probably someone with some recruiting ties in Indiana or in the midwest. Maybe with a bigger budget Painter can bring in someone special.

I've always thought we ought to go after people form the Duke system - you know - clean program, lots of final fours, etc. And now it turns out that Christian Laettner is shopping himself around as an AC. (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/blog/the_dagger/post/Ex-Duke-star-Christian-Laettner-is-searching-for?urn=ncaab-wp1640)

I actually don't really want him associated with Purdue but still - I'd like to get somebody from the Duke family.

I got mad respect for Darner and hope Matty at least gives him a phone call to sound out Linc's interest... but here's a what-the-hell off the wall pick: Kip Jones. Sure, he coaches (gasp!) women's ball at IPFW, but that just means that the Kipster stresses the fundamentals. Reading his bio, he's had some impressive coaches teaching him.

Still... Painter may have some 'splaining to do if he hires a "girl coach."

Good conversation- I'm not a fan of Laettner or any part of the Duke program. Look at Coach K's tree- very little success away from Duke. Much like the Belichick coaching tree in the NFL, they don't seem to be able to do a whole bunch away from Papa Bear.

I'm rooting for Micah Shrewsberry from Butler- I grew up with him, so I'm biased, but he seems like he'd be an excellent addition and why wouldn't someone want to have some of the Butler Mojo right now?

Kramer was actually on my list, but he's been pretty clear that he doesn't think his basketball career is nearly over...so we'll have to wait for that.

I'm positive that there are a ton of names circulating this week at the FF that I have no idea about...but with my limited resources, I came up with a pretty good list. I'm sure Painter will do the same before he makes his hire.

'Zo, Lusk and Ray were all very good, I'm a fan of Jack Owens as well...so I have faith that he'll get someone, or two someones in that fulfill the need.

Great point about some new perspective (can't remember who made that)...It'd behoove Matty to have a strong and knowledgeable asst. who can plant some new ideas into the system. Out of bounds plays, offensive sets and a match-up zone would be pretty great for this program, if only situationally.

Dan Dakich would make an excellent head coach or assistant coach. There is not one tv/radio personality that understands the ins and outs of college basketball better. He has a reason to have an ego. He shut down MJ.

Great list. I am also a bit biased but love seeing Micah Shrewsberry on on it. He and his wife Molly were friends of mine in high school - awesome people, and although she went to IU, don't hold it against them. I don't think she's particularly attached. They would fit in really well with the Purdue family. He's also hilarious and I think the team would get along really well with him. He would be a huge asset - and someone who's already recruiting in Indiana wouldn't hurt!

What about an assistant from a program back east with some NYC/Boston/Philly connections? The assumption is that Painter was able to clear more travel $, so someone with a different set of connections to make inroads elsewhere could take Purdue to the next level.

Melissa, I went to HS with both of them and grew up a few blocks from Molly- we had art class together...I'm a big fan of hers too.
