Brees was worse in every category in his first year at Purdue than the two belowHere's a comparison of two Purdue QBs in their first year under center in God's country:
Henry:
86/162 996 yards 53.1% comp. 8TD 7Int 112.4 rating
Orton:
69/142 686 yards 48.6% comp. 2TD 3Int 89.6 rating
These two are pretty comprable since neither started an entire season and both looked pretty anxious at times being thrown into their roles. They're also comprable in the fact that the guys around them really liked playing with them. That's about where it ends though. Orton always had a pretty good throwing motion and his stature allowed him to look over the line...but he ran a bit like a wounded animal. Henry kind of slings the ball and tends to throw through lanes as he doesn't stand as tall in the pocket. But, Henry's ability to run and overall athleticism is unlike any quarterback we've seen at Purdue.
The main reason I posted this was to remind all of us that players develop when given the time and tools to do that...Henry needs some guys to come along around him, but it's not out of the realm of possibility to have Henry become a QB in the upper third of the league this season and even more in his Junior and Senior years.

To be fair, Brees was primarily a backup to Billy Dicken and only played mop-up action in several blowouts we had. The only PT of consequence was against Michigan State when Dicken came back in after the blocked FG for TD.

AGREEE!!! Can't believe people don't know that Henry is the answer for #1....and Pike and George were two guesses! LOL, at least it was good for a laugh! My Guess is Griese for #2. I can't wait for this season...it's almost as suspensful as a Kip Jones free throw to win the game. Ahhh...the unknown.

Brunner- compare Ross' Frosh stats w/ Stubby's...they're not in the same universe.
I think Ross is a lot like Steve Smith in his frame and quickness...now, if he can learn to run routes and have consistent technique like Stubby, he'll be a world-beater.
1. Ross is a freshman. Don't talk about him like he's had the greatest chance to prove himself. And on that note
2. He was one of the many Boilers that spent half the season injured. So comparing his stats to Taylor Stubblefield is pointless.
3. I agree with you about improving his route running/technique, and we have a proven new WR coach this year.
Let's wait and see on all of this.
Stubblefield's first game in a Purdue uniform, he led Purdue's receivers in yardage and receptions. His second, he led them in receptions and was second in yardage. His third, he led them in yardage again.
In those three games alone, he had 226 yards receiving. Also noteworthy, Stubblefield was receiving passes not from Brees or Orton...or even Kirsch, but Brandon Hance.
Ross was injured versus Illinois in late October. In the 7 games he played in, he had 149 yards.
I'm rooting for him to do big things this season...he just hasn't done them yet.
Even if stubblefield didn't have the greatest quarterback to work with, he at least had the same one. Ross has had 3 quarterbacks throwing to him, none of which could stay healthy.
He did for the first three games...that was kind of my point in bringing that up.
Nevermind- you believe what you want to believe. Like you, I hope Ross is in the top-3 in the league this year.
