Fact Fondue - Middle Tennessee State

You like facts? I like facts. Boilerdowd, in his infinite wisdom, had given me the title of 'Associate Professor of BS' - this was somewhere between my 5 direct tweet comment about Oregon State football and my giant list of NBA draft facts (This is the third time we've had an NBA and an NFL first round pick in school history!).

Because of this, I'll chime in now and then with the Fact Fondue: a shotgun barrel full of facts that you can share around the water cooler or while talking to yourself over a luke warm tv dinner.

This week, we're melting down the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennesee State.

Come at me Bro

  • MTSU is from the Sunbelt conference, Purdue has never played a Sunbelt Opponent.
  • 0-4 against the Big 10
  • Opened the season against Minnesota last year at home and were handed a come from behind loss - which would remain Minnesota's only win until November.
  • Ranked 112/120 last year by M3, this is their second lowest rank - the lowest was the year they went D-1 ('99)
  • Went to the 2010 Go Daddy Bowl where they were handled by Miami (of Ohio).
  • Logan Kilgore will be their starter at QB; only played in 3 games for the Raiders
  • The team will have a radio show Monday night online about Purdue, their team's condition
  • This is the school's 100th year

And I'll include a recipe for a real fondue, if I must.

Got a fun fact that I forgot? You can tweet me @thuff or you can leave a comment here.

Watched the ESPN Elite 11 shows last night... Our boy Austin Appleby is impossible to not be excited about. Love the dude and so did the elite 11 staff... awesome coverage.

HAHA - that mascot is so tight.

The fact that folks are calling this a "gimme game" has me nervous. These are the games that historically trip the Boilers up. Hope and Co. need to destroy the Raiders. A 10 point win at home is not a sign of good things to come.

Honestly Cary, I don't care if it is a 1 point win, a 10 point win, or a 100 point win. Just win and go to the next game. All that matters is the W.

I second that, MrAnonymous. A one point victory with 0 ACL tears is good enough to start the '11 season.

The line is 18.5 in our favor on this game.

I don't trust a team that went bowling last year. They have a history of being up and down in ranks. Just two years ago they were the 36th best team in the nation.

Trust no one.

Who cares if they went bowling last year. Look at their schedule last year. According to who, they were the 36th best team? Themselves?

Ralph Bolden and Akeem Shavers will tear them up just to name a couple of guys. Neither of them played for us last year. Last year is last year.

Sure, last year is last year. But if you go back and look at past records, every year there are games that should be "no contest" that we end up fighting to win, or flat out losing.

I think this team is loaded with potential, but the killer- instinct-pedal-to-the-metal-boot-on-the-throat mentality needs to be there.

I know. I get it. I was just as pissed as the next person when we lost to N.Illinois and I don't even remember losing to Toledo but I watch every game. I must have deleted that from the memory.

I think some of the guys on this team have that mentality but I really hope they don't miss Rob Henry's leadership I think he would have had.
