The Scale: MTSU

AWFUL

-122 degree field temperature caused cramps and exhaustion at Ross-Ade

-Purdue's defense allowing 460 yards of offense

-11 penalties for 95 yards

-Horrible traffic on 52 near 25

-The amount of butts in the seats at Ross-Ade

-Caleb TerBush's inability to hit open receivers

-Purdue's pass protection

-Ricardo Allen's fumbled punt

-Purdue's pass rush

-Purdue's inability to defend running backs on passing plays

-Seeing the Nebraska flag flying with the rest of the conference flags around the top of Ross-Ade

-The new unis in person

-Akeem Hunt's TD run

-Purdue's special teams play

-Allen & Johnson's play

-TerBush's final drive performance

-Ricardo Allen blocking MTSU's attempt to tie the game

-Ralph Bolden's 120 yards in first game back from a season lost to ACL injury

-Purdue getting its first victory in six games

AWESOME

"The Scale" is a new post-gameday synopsis on BS that rates football gameday from awful to awesome. We might or might not do again.

For his first start, contrary to most blogs I've seen, I thought Ter Bush played well.

I thought the RB's played well.

What made them both look piss poor for 3 quarters as the piss-poor offensive line play. Their DT's were literally pushing us backward on running plays.

MTSU D-line pushing us backward on running plays!?!

Both of our lines got manhandled today. That is a glaring, glaring omen of not good things for the Big Ten season.

However, last year, ND's lines pushed us around like 3rd graders at recess. Soooo, maybe we'll see growth, but I was very disappointed that they could stop our short yardage run game while we couldn't stop theirs.

TB's inability/lack of permission to check out of plays might have impacted this as well...Often MTSU would have 8 guys in the box, and we'd still run the ball. A more experienced QB would've eaten them alive.

All-in-all, it was about was I expected from the offense. Defensively, I was so disappointed that I don't even want to relive the game. We did little correctly, and we looked slower, weaker, and dumber than a non AQ school. Yikes. I hope it was the heat combined with first game jitters. Ugh.

It was Shavers but Hunt will be scoring like that next season,
if not before.

I thought Gaston and Short would be more effective but Gaston's back must have been bothering him. Joe Holland played better but still has trouble in pass coverage.

Allen should stick to CB and forget about punt returns. Gravesande may not be flashy but he is very dependable. He saved the day for Purdue. Edison continued to impress me and O. J. Ross continues to disappoint me. Siller and Bolden were great and if they can stay healthy will be fun to watch.

Had to be impressed with the play of Sinz and Crosby Wright whne Holmes went down but it looks like Sterling Carter was a wasted scholarship.

The prettiest sight wwas seeing Albert Evans return to the field agfer being injured.

the reason the stadium was nearly empty was the heat. i had to leave during the third quarter to get to my air conditioner. all black+ brutal heat+ alcoholic beverages+ losing to mtsu at the time= lots of students leaving
