There's no such thing as a good loss, so I'll definitely take a bad win.
Ricardo Allen redeemed himself at the end and helped the Boilermakers get to 1-0. Maybe it was the black uniforms when it was 150 degrees outside, but the team generally looked out of sync and with the exception of two long scoring drives, it seemed to me like they could never get anything going. Color me surprised when I saw that they had 420 total yards. It felt more like 6.
TerBush wasn't terrible, but certainly wasn't great either. It looks like Bolden is back and at 100% and assuming health in the future, he should do some serious damage this season.
At the end of the season a win is a win and Purdue is still among the unbeatens.

A win is a win but this won is hard to swallow. 95 penalty yards and the Robinson possession both leave me questioning the coaching.
Boiledshrimp, I agree with you about that. Some of the decisions made were questionable, and the holding/false start calls on the Purdue line were crazy.
TerBush can't be blamed for the offensive line not doing their job. But its a W! Can't complain there!
You're right about that. I'll always take a W for our Boilers.
If you look at the box score then it certainly looks different. Ask me if I'd take over 50% completions, 2TDs and 1INT from TerBush the rest of the year with Bolden at 100+ yds rushing and I'd take it in a heartbeat.
That said, the penalties and the continued inability to cover the middle of the field on defense made this closer than it should have been.
Where is the swarming defense? Why did we consistently give up 5+ yards on first down? Center of the field pass coverage was non-existent; they acted like they had never seen a slant pass before.
Ugly, but a win. Defense...play like you have experience because you do!!!
I wasn't that upset with the defense. Yeah, they gave up too many yards, especially in the pass game. But, the offense and special teams didn't do them any favors though (same old shit for Purdue football). I was generally pleased with how we defended the run (3.9 yards a carry)
The scheming on MT's last drive was sickening, but that's entirely on the coaches IMO.
My biggest concern for the D is the lack of ability to apply pressure on the opposition's qb with our 4 down linemen.
Back-to-back illegal formation penalties. Yo, someone needs to remember where the hell he's supposed to line up. If there are five guys in the backfield, one of you is wrong.
The running game looked pretty good, which is a good thing. And Wiggs still has a strong, accurate leg. I don't know ... everything indicates they should be 3-0 going into the Notre Dame game, but it'll be a very unimpressive 3-0 unless they beat Rice by 60 or something.
And who knows? Maybe ND isn't that good, and it'll be an unimpressive 5-0 going into the Penn State game. I'd rather see the team really playing well, but if they're going to struggle and still win, that's fine too.
