All-B1G Awards Handed Out...and Gumbo

Tonight, a loud chorus of whining could be heard from Bloomington all the way North into Park Ridge, Illinois as the All-B1G teams were announced...and Hummel, Jackson and Byrd all received some booty...sweet, sweet booty.

Coaches:
Hummel (Sr)
Green (Sr)
Shurna (Sr)
Taylor (Sr)
Sullinger (So)

Media:
Hummel
Green
Shurna
Sullinger
Frazier (Jr)

Awards??
In spite of being back, no IU players were named to either team and their coach wasn't named as the conference's best, Izzo was. But, Zeller (deservedly) received the Frosh of the year award from the coaches. Burke received the same award from the media. Craft was defensive player of the year, and Green was the conference's POY.

Hummel became only the 12th player in the history of the conference to be first team B1G three times.  He also was a Sportsmanship Honoree. His stats tell the story:

-4th in scoring in the league
-4th in rebounding
-4th in FT%
-4th in defensive rebounds
-6th in 3pt made
-6th in blocked shots
(all while not in the top-10 in minutes)

Along with Hummel, Byrd received some props- he was named the 6th man of the year...and LewJack was named to the Honorable Mention team.

Congrats
We didn't give them props, but the Boiler women won the B1G tourney and became B1G Champs.  Good for them.  Around BS, we're not women's basketball fans...but as we always say, if Purdue is doing something, we want it to be done well...The Lady Boilers did just that last weekend. Congrats to Coach Versyp, Brittany Rayburn and co.

They're Rich, B*tch!
While it might be considered a bit of a slap in the face to handsome Drew Brees, it's a lucrative one.  Brees, Avril and Spencer were all given with the franchise tag...which made them all wealthier in one season than J and I combined for our life's earnings (and J is a big deal, for those of you outside of NYC).

What did you intend to write instead of:

"Hummel became only the 12th player ever to be first team B1G ever"?

I was glad to see Frazier get some recognition. He was fabulous.

Jim, I believe that should say "Hummel became only the 12th player ever to be first team B1G three times".

First player to do it since Mateen Cleaves. First Boiler to do it ever.

Interestingly only one other of the 12 earned three 1st Team awards in non-consecutive years: Steve Alford in 1984, 1986 and 1987.

Hummel is the first to do so with a year gap between each award: 2008, 2010 and 2012. I'll bet that never happens again.
