Texas A&M Will Fit Right In -- They're Already Cheering For Other SEC Teams

Regular readers know how much we kind of loathe the SEC's brain-dead fans who rub it in your face when LSU wins a national title... or when Alabama does...or when Auburn does. Even when they're, like, a Georgia or Tennessee fan or something. As I noted to the site Saturday Down South via Twitter the other night, it's easy to have "southern pride," as they call it, when you have a dozen favorite teams. As I've often noted, this is no different than me rooting for the entire American League East. It makes no sense and makes you look like the opposite of an intense fans -- it makes you look like a stooge in a Buffalo Wild Wings commercial.

When Texas A&M moved to the conference, I actually did think that they were a good addition in terms of intense/insane fandom. If you're not familiar with Aggie fans, people in Texas refer to them as "insane." We all like to believe we're loyal to our schools, but A&M alums are truly nuts about their fanaticism. And if you're putting college football destinations on your bucket list, I highly recommend you put College Station near the top.

All that said.... the Aggies joined the SEC this week and put out the below ridiculous "welcome" video, wherein A&M student do the cheers of the other SEC teams. What....the....F?

After the jump, see a lame attempt at... I don't know....conference spirit?

Hey, remember when Nebraska joined the Big Ten and put up a video doing all the cheers of the other Big Ten teams? Oh, wait, no, neither do I. Because they came here because it's a great conference but, make no mistake, they wanted to paste all of us.

Aggie students and 12th man members, I'm disappointed in you. You're on film doing the cheers of other teams. Wearing A&M gear, no less. That's weak.

Just terrible. At least the stupid videos Ohio State, Notre Dame, IU, etc made were supporting their own school.

On a separate note, can someone please tell me what the president says at the 50 second mark? I watched it over and over about 10 times and still have no idea.

The worst part to me about Aggie fans/alum is the stupid rings they all wear (and bang incessantly on something when more than 2 of them are present).

@QuadBoiler: "We also want you to know, from now on, you'll hear an awful lot of this in SEC country."

And earlier, he says he's president of Texas A&M University, not "TexM University", as your ears might lead you to believe.

(Source: I speak Texan.)

And then the gig em aggies cheer after he says you'll hear an awful lot of this is just sort of weak and sad... much like their football program for the better part of a decade.

So you praise them as some of the most loyal fans in the country but then crap on them for having conference pride. This is why the B1G is always last to adapt. You should be proud to be in the B1G with teams like OSU, Wisc, and Michigan. Not root against them any chance you get. But super smart AL East guys like you will never figure that out.

Hahaha, ok it was the "you'll hear an awful lot of this in SEC country" that lost me. It was just a fast jumbled mess to me. Anyway thanks for the clarification.

I suppose using your logic that all of us (students/alums/fans) agreed and endorsed the "Maker's All" campaign. Stop it. The irony there is hysterical.

Typical... This site can never be wrong and attempt to contort things to back yourselves up. (see Nikki J post and aftermath).

Huh? I don't even understand the attempted insults you're making at us.

"Andrew and Travis" (oh and let us know where you're registered) -- You think pride in your school and "conference pride" are the same? Okay, I guess. But we think you're wrong and we're entitled. Big Ten is always "last to adapt," huh? Except for the way the Big Ten led the change to the spread in college football, for example, and is one of -- if not THE most -- desirable conferences in all of college sports. Otherwise, your argument holds up great!

Jeff Baran -- I don't know what you're talking about. What does whether we liked some stupid, poorly-conceived marketing campaign have to do with whether we support our school? The answer is that one has nothing to do with the other. What "irony" are you talking about? Do you know what irony means?

And then this: "This site can never be wrong and attempt to contort things to back yourselves up."

Is that even English?

How is this any different than the AAMB playing the opposing team's fight song before every football game?

I don't see a problem with this.

Daniel -- Do the students sing the opposing team's fight song, too?

Yes, it's very different.
