BS Readers Think ND Should Stay On The Schedule

Just closing the loop on our poll, with more than 500 responses, 63% of BS readers feel that ND should stay on the schedule and would prefer it to stay that way.

We're of the opinion that Purdue will be on the chopping block as ND tries to figure out how to fit in football powerhouses from the ACC like Duke and North Carolina.

I know, I'm as shocked as you are that BS reader opinions don't move mountains as much as they should.

Next up, in the sidebar, let's just cut to the chase as Purdue steams towards conference play. Will the Boilers' win their division and wind up playing in Indy for the Big Ten title?

ND dropped Michigan. That means Purdue and Michigan State most likely stay on the schedule.

I'm not so sure I'd be taking shots at other conferences this year if I was a fan of a Big Ten school, either.

I always love that argument...nobody can mock anyone else unless their house is in perfect order. So only Alabama fans can taunt anyone else in college football, right?

Nonsense. Hooey. Baloney.

Fair enough. But you open yourself up to criticism as well. It's not like ND dropping Purdue for any of the "powerhouses from the ACC" would be a huge drop off in quality of opponent. ND has what many consider to be the toughest schedule in college football this year. Suggesting that they are looking to weaken their schedule by dropping Purdue is pretty laughable, for several reasons.

When I saw they dropped Michigan, I assumed it was so they could keep Purdue, which, let's face it, is a fairly consistent win for them. HATE to say it as a Purdue fan, but I can see that happening.
Only in the last several years has Our Lady stiffened it schedule, and I believe it was direct pressure from NDC (The Notre Dame Football network, otherwise known as NBC). I really think that's one of the biggest reasons that Our Lady has struggled in the last ten years. Because there aren't 13 Rutgers, Army, Navy and Air Forces. Plus Purdue.

I hate to admit it, but I mostly agree with U-P Boiler. But nothing is written in stone yet. ND could drop Purdue or MSU at any point over the next few months. Five set games is a big chunk for an "independent". Also, there is a lot of talk out my way (Utah) that BYU is working really hard to get ND as a yearly game. I don't think that will happen, but one never knows these days.

Five ACC games plus Stanford, USC and Navy equals 8 games. Assume there are a few of these "classics" lined up like in Chicago this weekend or the games they play in places like Yankee Stadium, etc. The remaining slots are then slimmed down quite a bit and they don't care about history with Purdue.

I suspect it will go away in 2015.
