Boilers Mugged in NYC

As I type, Purdue is about to enter overtime...

But, they've already been robbed of this game.

Two Purdue starters are fouled out of the game...no 'Nova players.  The two that are gone aren't Freshman, but vets- Byrd and AJ.

-TJohn was hit across the face with a forearm while shooting...no flagrant, no official review.
-RonJohn was intentionally tripped, which is a flagrant...instead of a flagrant 1, a late whistle was the result.
-Finally, DJ Byrd was called for a flagrant after being pushed as he swung the ball high.  The rule states that if the elbows move faster than the hips, it's a flagrant...and if a player uses his elbows as weapons, it's a flagrant. Neither occurred.  The flagrant resulted in a four-point possession and Byrd on the bench...and Purdue not winning in regulation.

Let's not forget that the refs called the game one way for 'Nova, and another for Purdue.  Traveling, flagrant fouls, shoves while double teaming...anything went tonight.

Nicely done, officials- you earned this victory tonight for Villanova.

Regardless of what happens from here out, Purdue has already been robbed.

Don't forget the no call on the goaltending earlier in the second half.

This officiating was terrible. I don't know how Matt will be able to hold it in. Look for some fines after this one. Terrible.

On a side note. MAKE YOUR FREETHROWS!!!!!!

Terrible

He should take his fine and unload...it's deserved.

I'm completely shocked a ref didn't get punched straight in the mouth.

This game was a joke. I, too, would have likes to see Painter go off on these officials.

I'll chip in a few bucks to pay his fine. Let 'em have it, Matty.

Some of the worst officiating I've ever seen there. Good job by the team forcing overtime considering they played 5 v 8 the entire second half

Not to mention Terone getting hit again in the overtime. The worst ever.

This game obliterated the 'most egregiously blown flagrants' of all time, and they call the one on byrd. I have never been more moved to harm someone more than i am right now.

I know you guys don't like cussing on the site so I went out in the backyard and got a good 2mins of it out before typing. That was easily the worst officiating I've ever seen including Indiana and Georgia HS ball. Len Elmore was openly critical of some of the calls throughout the game. Loved Painter yelling "we don't want your charity now" at the refs after TJ took the shot to the eye and the ensuing make-up call.

Glad the NFL Replacement refs found work elsewhere. Didn't think it would be in high-tier division 1 basketball.

I would have loved to see Gene Keady's reaction to these calls. Someone would have been ripped a new one, and that is exactly what Painter needs to do. Stop playing MR Nice Guy.

I think Painter held in much of his frustration towards the end there to avoid the T (which would award Nova with two more free throws) when Purdue was still close. But I think he should have let the refs have it and taken the T when it was clear Purdue wasn't going to win in OT.

I just think over the last few years Painter has allowed other coaches to intimidate the refs without a response, thus calls frequently go against PU. It didn't happen in the Keady days.

Was at MSG live, words cannot describe how bad the officials were, mainly guy with white hair ..
MSG security tossed a purdue fan in the section for yelling at refs, etc. We all know that pit in stomach feeling with purdue, usually warranted by choking away games, even worse when taken away by refs .. complete travesty. This Purdue team is average, but deserved to win this one.

I was watching with a non-partial friend (Tennessee fan), and while I was obviously pissed and cursing at the refs, he was swearing the game was being intentionally thrown. I personally blame compete and utter incompetence on the officials, but their Villanova bias was as plain as day to see, and impossible to get around. It's extremely rare, in sports, that a loss can be pinned on the officials exclusively (i.e. Packers/Seahawks). Make no mistakes friends, this L is 100% on the zebras tonight...

I didn't see anyone tossed, 2defb784-116c-11e1-bde3-000bcdca4d7a, but I did like that someone on twitter said "I would have been escorted out of MSG by now."

Didn't get to watch but had it on radio. Even the Clis started complaining about 5-6 min in. He held it in for a while but late in the 2nd he couldn't any longer.

Frustrating loss. Still wish we weren't an embarrassment at the FT line.

There were only 7000 people in the stands, and 6000 were Villanova fans. What would be the attendance for a Purdue - Alabama game at MSG?

I'm still mystified why Painter didn't blow a gasket early in the half. The T. Johnson 'offensive' foul while A. Johnson got undercut and hacked was not only ridiculous but it was dangerous.

It almost looked like he didn't care if Purdue won or lost...

Where's Bobby Knight and a loose chair when you need him???
