Sandi & LBD in 2010 |
Marcius seemed like a bit of a project player when he arrived on campus, but he ended his time in a Purdue uniform with a flourish. He played his best basketball, by far, at the end of this season...specifically, he beat Wisconsin at their own game while giving us all a little something to look forward to. We know now, that's not to be.
In the brief meetings I had with Marcius, I liked him...and always liked his enthusiasm as Purdue was preparing to leave the tunnel at Mackey and during timeouts. He was an interesting guy on the court too...especially early in his career. In spite of his large frame, he seemed to always like circus shots and was pretty skilled around the basket.
Wherever he lands, I wish him well...and really don't blame him for leaving.
Marcius would have likely been in a rotation of four big me next year; the other three being Hammons, Carroll and Simpson.

I must admit to being upset by this (not that anyone else cares how one alum feels). Sandi should have played more minutes this season. I was really hoping Sandi could play the 4 next season with Hammons playing the 5. But, then RayDay looks to get screwed.
This is one of those tough decisions Painter/Marcius just had to make though. Painter needs to have Hammons/5, RayDay/4, and Tjohn/3 for the team to make a run at a championship. Sandi doesnt fit. Sandi knows this, but needs to look out for himself. Thus, he leaves to pursue his dream of playing basketball. He is probably good enough to play in Europe after he graduates.
I really liked Sandi's hustle and toughness while he was at Purdue which is why this bothers me so much. But, this is the real world, and you have to make tough decisions to get better. Good Luck Sandi. You will always be a fellow Boiler to me.
If Simpson gets healthy, it'll be RJ, TJ, RD, Simpson, Hammons.
PG - RJ, BS, AJ
SG - TJ, AJ, RD
SG/F - RD, KS
PF - Simpson, Hale, Carroll
C - Hammons, Carroll, Simpson
Smotherman will RS.
I can't see Lawson staying. I think Painter picks up a SG and a PF...or at least tries to.
