Coach Hazell's Outreach to Former Boilermaker Players

Coach Hazell continues to make the right moves, as Mike Carmin details in his post from Friday in which he shares the letter Hazell sent to former Boilermaker football players in April.

In the letter (which is here), Hazell asks former players to write a letter to the current players about what it means to play at Purdue and that he'll have the seniors read those letters to the team at camp this fall.

Hazell also makes it clear to former players that "This is your place. I want everyone who has ever played here to feel welcome. You are welcome to attend the offices, meetings, practices and any other thing you can think of."

So Brandon Hance, we're looking at you.

We can only hope the changes of December-now will continue August-January. This is good stuff.

So "The Furnace" is a real thing now, huh?

Remind me of the Hance story. I only remember he started for Purdue in 2001 and then transferred...

He played like 6 games as QB and then moved back to Florida or something. I think he took some heat from the fans and then got homesick if I remember correctly. He came after Brees graduated.

He wore a red kimono to house parties. He didn't fit in. #understatement

Hance transferred to USC.

Hance was supposed to be the new Brees who was gonna win 2 Heisman's and take Purdue to the NC game. Tiller was supposedly revamping his entire offensive scheme around him. He started half a season and got replaced by Orton. Transferred to USC after one season of starting.

I moved to SoCal right around the time Hance transferred to USC, and the funny thing was even though he was 4th on the depth chart, he almost HAD to play a game due to injuries... I was almost looking forward to the shit he would take from the USC Diehard's (think Notre Dame fan boys, 98% non-alumni) from his petulant pouting.
