Yes, he also has "La" in front of his name.

What we do know about James is that he's a former 4-star recruit with 4.4 speed out of Texas...and he'll be starting the first game of his career when Purdue comes to Eugene.

In case you haven't heard...
I don't know if you know this or not, but one of Oregon's players was suspended for the season following the Boise State game...and he was a starter.
I'm kidding of course- everyone knows about LaGarrette's suspension at this point, if you watch EsPN or hung around a TV to watch college football last weekend but, what's not being widely reported is the entire sequence of events...Here goes:
-LaGarrette Blount said Oregon owed Boise State an a** Whipping as revenge for last year's loss to the Broncos in the days leading up to the big game at Boise.
-Oregon loses to Boise State while not being able to move the ball, specifically, they couldn't run the ball against the Broncos' defense. LaGarrette Blount, a very good running back, had an off night finishing with -5 yards rushing.
-Following the loss, Boise State lineman, Byron Hout went up to remind Blount that in fact, they didn't kick the arse of the Broncos...and slapped LaGarrette on the shoulder and yelled at him to remind him.
-Hout turned away from Blount and was punched in the right jaw.
-Blount acted like Mike Tyson and stared at Hout and taunted him while he was on the ground...all while keeping his chin strap buttoned and back-peddling.
-Blount's teammates tried to restrain him...he of course punched one of them,
-Blount threw down his helmet, pushed away a few more teammates and started shouting at teammates and Boise fans alike while heading the general direction of the locker rooms.
-Instead of heading straight off of the field, Blount headed toward the edge of the field and continued the confrontation with the Boise fans. He came up to the edge of the temporary gate and was struck by a Boise fan.
-This seemed to throw gas on the fire. Blount turned to go back at the crowd of Bronco fans jeering the Duck RB and looked to be heading into the group of fans...but, was restrained by police, security and coaches...after being pushed far into the tunnel, two of his offensive linemen made sure he kept walking toward the locker room.
-Last Friday, Blount was suspended for the rest of the season by new Oregon HC, Chip Kelly...a move that former coach and current AD, Mike Belotti agreed with, according to reports.
-On Saturday, Blount called to apologize to Hout for punching him.
Now, why do I bring this up? A couple reasons- first, you can make the call if the punishment fits the crime here. The Oregon Register Guard has hinted that racism among EsPN heads, other media outlets and even Oregon's Athletic department is partially to blame for Blount's suspension. Oregon fans have said Hout got what he deserved and that Blount was not acting poorly by reacting to the Boise State fans the way he did.
Here's the deal- Hout was out of line...the Boise State fan was out of line who smacked Blount...no doubt about it, but Blount forced his coaches and the athletic department to act quickly and strongly since the incident was completely televised on a national stage. I applaud Kelly for trying to restore order quickly.
But, without full knowledge of what Blount did before this, I can't say whether the suspension was deserved for Blount. As a Purdue fan, I'm happy he's not playing this week...past that, I don't know.
I hope this distraction pulls Oregon's preparedness away from the Purdue game, but I doubt it will. It will probably galvanize the team and they'll end up finding a Heisman Trophy candidate out of the deal. All of Oregon's backs that backed up Blount are very fast...none are as powerful as Blount, but a speedy back probably fits their system quite well...Yesterday, Hope remarked that he believed Oregon will be ready, I'm positive he's right. All that said, the loss of Blount leaves a massive hole for the Oregon offense to fill.

Deadwrong
Normally, I respect Deadspin's approach to the sports news of the day, week, whatever. But not today. Not this reckless and ignorant post from Dashiell Bennett, a guy who I don't know personally but also normally respect. But Dash is as wrong as can be here and I surely hope he's not doing it just to be a contrarian. Because that would be stupid.The title is "Byron Hout Got What He Deserved."
Really? He deserved to get punched in the jaw while he wasn't looking by a thug who talked smack all week long apparently? A thug who then ran away like a little girl. A thug who punched him with his HELMET ON?
I've read a lot about this today, as I'm sure many of you have as well. And the consensus seems to be that Blount was talking during the week about how they owed Boise St. an ass-whipping because Boise beat them last year. And, from what's being cobbled together, it appears that Hout may have gone by and rapped him on the shoulder pad and said, "Nice ass-whipping."
Should Hout have done that? Of course not. Nobody's denying that. He should probably be disciplined, in fact, for inciting this melee. However, he does not "deserve" to be punched in the jaw like that.
What if Blount had broken Hout's jaw? Would he deserve that, too? What an asinine and obnoxious thing to say. God forbid Hout and the Broncos appear "smug" after beating the thug-filled, trash-talking-but-never-have-won-anything Ducks for the second straight year!
Bennett/Deadspin also classified Hout's actions as an "equally egregious display of poor sportsmanship." No, sir. Just... no.
He also says this about the fans at -- remember -- a Boise State home game: "[The] fans should probably have kept their mouths shut too. Blount would have ripped them in half if they didn't have security to protect them."
Wait, so now fans can't yell and scream at a thug who just committed assault on their field? Okay, gotcha. Let me make sure I write down all these rules. Clown.
Oh, and let me ask this... was it also Byron Hout's fault when Blount went after and jacked HIS OWN TEAMMATE in the head?

There are those who are calling last night "disgusting" and for Blount to be bounced off the team and they're probably right. It's hard to fault a guy for being totally pissed -- especially when a goofy goon from the other team slaps you on the shoulder pad and probably says something inflammatory. However, if he'd done anything else besides punch him -- like, just getting in his face, etc. -- then we wouldn't be talking about this.Instead, Lame Duck Blount jacks him and then backpedals away while hoping his teammates will "hold him back." SportsCenter even mentioned him "having to be restrained" by teammates. Watch the footage, though... he actually wants no part of fighting the Broncos linemen. After all, he was already minus-5 against them for the night. (rim shot)
For those who didn't stay up to watch, you also missed AD Belotti (former Coach Belotti) forgetting he's no longer the coach and actually coming down to the sideline to give some tips to Coach Kelly. Yeesh. Way to undermine your new young coach in front of a bunch of your recruits, Belotti.
Regular reader Gregg Z, who is married to a Duck (not a football player, though) and who used to live in Portland, describes what Oregon fans have become thusly:
"[Duck fans] possess the arrogance of Notre Dame boosters, with all the redneck characteristics of Iowa supporters-- quite the perfect storm."
Wow, next weekend should be fun.

If you're like me, you spent much of tonight parked in front of the TV and got to watch some pretty lousy football, honestly. But didn't matter to me, I was a happy dude. The play will get progressively better, we all know that, as the offenses get in sync...but we didn't get to see a lot of points this evening. What we did see was a couple of games chosen to be examples of the "Respect Weekend", according to the NCAA in which sportsmanship would be on display...uh, maybe not.
In the "jewel" of the evening, the #16 Oregon Ducks faced the #14 Boise State Broncos in Boise. Boise controlled the trenches all game and was generally dominant despite the relatively-close score, but that's not the story. The story was what happened after the clock read 0:00.
LaGarrette Blount is a talented back, but has never had the best attitude at Oregon. It got him thrown out of camp this year...but that didn't seem to be much of a big deal after that and was pretty much chalked up to normal "chippiness" that happens in camps all over the nation in the late summer. But what we saw tonight was a different story...and his inability to keep himself in check is officially a big problem for Oregon and first year coach, Kelly.
Despite losing, the Ducks still have a lot of fight in 'em
Who knows how this will be handled, but LaGarrette has left his team mates and coach in an awful position. He punched an opposing lineman in the chin, got into a shoving match with his own teammates, and then, the cherry atop the sundae of rage, tried to go into the crowd a la Ron Artest as he exited the field. A band of police, security, a coach an offensive lineman and other teammates wrangled the hot-headed Senior RB toward the locker room...The question is now how the Ducks' team and coaches will handle this story...because this will be what's talked about the next seven days as our Boilers prepare to head to Eugene.
Aside from this lapse of self-control, the Ducks looked overmatched and poorly coached in my opinion. Heading into this one, I discussed that we knew little about Oregon since so much had changed since last season. The turnover in their offensive line seemed obvious for much of the game as the Ducks didn't have a first down until the third quarter. Their QB ended the game at just over 51% passing, throwing for 120 yards, 1 interception and 0 TD. Oregon's talented backfield ended the game with 31 yards rushing.
J got to listen to Oregon's own radio team on XM radio and they were befuddled at the lack of offense for much of the game...I think much of the national media was. One thing we all know now is that this team is very beatable.
IU Controls EKU
Indiana opened its new* stadium this evening against the always-tough, formerly Danny Hope-coached EKU Colonels...and allowed this D-1AA opponent to stay alive in the game until the very last play.
IU looked extremely slow at nearly every position and IU fans who were thinking the Hoosiers might surprise some people need to re-think that idea. This is still a very bad, very lethargic IU team that seems to reflect the even-keel nature of their coach...and the pistol offense experiment that Coach Lynch thought would create "downhill running opportunities" produced 73 yards rushing...but Ben Chappell did have 326 yards passing. That said, he looked pretty inaccurate at times and his 1:2 Int:TD ratio shows that his yardage was inconsequential.
The Hoosiers are in for a long season.
*new is defined by IU AD Fred Glass in a recent IU commercial as a stadium built in 1960 with new seats/facilities in one endzone.
