Boilers Over USC!

In women's golf, that is. Sorry to get you excited.

As reader Ben writes, "I know you don’t normally cover golf, but the ladies are leading the NCAA with 1 day to go. Boiler up!"

Well, Ben, actually we do enjoy golf around here and have written a fair amount about the game -- the men's game, that is. But, remember, we're sexist pigs who don't watch a whole lot of women's sports (besides boilerdowd's season tickets to the WNBA's Indiana Fever)

Anyway, I checked the files and this was the first women's golf-related photo I had handy.

Anybody else in the mood for some Cheerios?

How about the POSE she decided to go with, in light of the trophy's, uh, shape?

Okay, glad to know I am not the only one who had that thought upon seeing this picture, lol.

I wonder what the men's tournamnet trophy looks like? A vertical Philly Cheesesteak?

Purdue is one day from increasing its number of team national championships by 50% and we're making jokes. This is serious, I tell you, serious!

lol.

Apparently a woman from LSU shot a tournament-record 64 today. Fortunately LSU isn't anywhere near contention.

Purdue is currently four strokes ahead of USC, although I'm assuming this scoring comes from volunteers, and of course we now know you can't always rely on those scores, can you? Unfortunately that site doesn't say who's on the course or where they are.

I think it's official: the women brought it home, finishing at +1, one stroke ahead of USC and four strokes ahead of Alabama.

They won't take the individual title again this year, though: the top Boiler, Maude-Aimee LeBlanc, finished tied for third at -7, five behind Oklahoma State sophomore Caroline Hedwall and one behind ASU freshman Jennifer Johnson.

Looks like a good break for the Boilers. Apparently USC could have forced a playoff after LeBlanc missed a par putt, but they missed a birdie on 18. (Purdue, USC, and ASU players played together today, so this was happening on the same hole.)

woo Boilers!
