The Various USA-centric Reactions to Donovan's Game-Winner

For those who haven't seen this, it's a pretty awesome compilation of reactions to the USA's game-winning (and Group-clinching, moving on-clinching, USA soccer-saving, etc.) goal by Landon Donovan in the 91st minute on Wednesday.

First, enjoy.

Okay, yes, some of it's a little cornpone and I'm not sure I needed to see the weird people in their basements who were evidently taking video of....themselves?  But nonetheless, I don't see how you can't get a bit of a chill seeing reactions like this all over the country (and, really, the world). And these were just the people who had footage of their reactions. This same thing happened in our TV lounge at work.

It doesn't matter if you're not a big soccer fan or you're one of these clowns who likes to purport that "nobody cares about soccer." That's ignorant and simply not true. Regardless, nationalism brings lots of people together.

Oh, and the best part? The video was compiled by Robby Donoho, a Purdue senior.

USA-Ghana, tomorrow at 2:30 Eastern.

People care about soccer....right now. After the US gets eliminated, it'll disappear until 2014.

To think that somehow soccer is going to suddenly become relevant in this country, is nothing short of ignorance and full of wishful thinking.

The allure USA soccer is that it is something the entire country can get behind, in the same way we got behind the USA Olympic Hockey team. This isn't so much a fascination with soccer as it is something that is relevant to the whole country, something that we all can cheer for together. While most sports are broken into factions of regional teams, national teams can garner the support of places all over the country.

The concept of "U.S. Soccer" is just as stupid as NFL Europe. The rest of the world will never fall in love with American football, and we'll never be attracted to soccer unless we're watching our kids play it.

Travis and others -- I'm not arguing that. But the same is true of 95% of Olympic sports and yet, there we are, watching the fricking biathalon and caring about Michael Mongoloid Phelps.

I was at the check in line at O'Hare when he scored. They had the game on a large TV. The place erupted. I've never seen happy travelers at O'Hare until then. Later, my flight was cancelled...then the later flight was also cancelled. Sweet.
